Last week's Nightwing issue was not bad. The art was good, but the plot was a little too Revenge of the Sith for me. The inner monologue got a little hokey at times too, which makes me question if that is being overused sometimes.
This week's comclusion in Detective was pretty lousy. SPOILERS AHEAD
We've seen the story of Ra's having another child floating around out there several times. They even made a Batman: TAS episode. Now we get a recycled story to bring back one of Batman's greatest foes. The other stuff parts of this issue were too overused as well. Batman acting as general commanding his troops to take out the lesser enemies while he fights the leader. I was really hoping for something different. I can't tell you what that would be, but this hardly makes me go wow.
The art was about the worst of any comic that I have bought this year (I buy about 5 comics a week every week of the year). Ra's al Ghul is supposed to look like a zombie, not everyone else in the comic. I've seen issues of Marvel Zombies with fewer rotting characters.
What is the deal with the colors on Damian's clothes? He had the black and white suit on for at least the last 4 previous parts of the story now he is wearing something similar to what Tim used to wear. I know that in the earlier parts Damian was back in his pseudo-Robin suit, but eventually something happened to put him in the action figure suit. Now in the midst of being kidnapped he is back in the Robin-esque suit. Do they actually edit this stuff anymore?
If you've picked up the last 6 parts of this, you are sort of obligated to get it, but this issue really made the whole crossover arc a failure.

Given that I edit the Comics This Week thread - you'd think I'd be able to remember what's what and what's when. My comic dealer (who is excellent) is on Ebay and they've more or less sold out of every issue of this arc. Although a small independent shop, they've got a BIG customer so they don't just have a couple of issues of each - yet they're wiped out within a day or so of them being released. It's not a massive problem - i've got Nightwing 139 from somewhere else now - but it's clearly really selling.
I've avoided this thread as I've so far only read the 1st couple of issues - but like a plank I've just caught the last small paragraph of Darknight's previous post! That'll teach me to go noseying about in review threads when I don't wanna know what's going on!

Sorry to mess things up for you. Sometimes I forget that a short last paragraph can almost hypnotically make people read it. Go ahead and give the arc a shot. You may enjoy it.

Sorry for the week delay of posting this. Since it was the Christmas holiday, it is understandable for me to be late on this as everyone is busy during this time. But for me, there was something else: cold & flu. Yes, I was (and still am) very sick. Add that to the christmas business, and add that to my life and in turn writing the reviews. it was a nightmare. Sorry for the delay, but I believe I have a pretty good excuse.

PLOT:
The startling climax of "The Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul"! A secret surrounding Ra's' lineage is revealed! Everything comes to a head at Nanda Parbat as Batman, Robin, Nightwing and Damian face off against the eternal might of Ra's al Ghul!
REVIEW:
Last issue, with Nightwing, was handled well as we prepare now for the final issue. And like I said; I did not know the arc was about to end with this issue, Detective #839, and I was a little worried. I ended up getting the feelings of maybe the ending would be rushed, as seen with the issues following the issues are sorta mostly or partly epilogues. So I was hoping it ended well as I was enjoying this. Without further ado; here is the finale in Detective #839!
This has everything a conclusion needs: lots of action and something that gives you the sense of finale. For example; Ra's gets a new body (his son's), which he'll have to live with, but still, he still looks like a corpse. I don't know if that's because of the artists of what. The second example is with a fight that isn't a unholy alliance in anyway, shape or form, between Batman and Ra's Al Ghul. And lastly; while this doesn't lead to anything but back to the same position, Damien hears from his father's words that he is no different than his other "sons", which I'd see as something that will come up later on when it comes down to who will he side more with; Batman, his father, or Talia, his mother?
But despite this, this issue suffers from my fear that I had last issue: a rushed ending. Sorry if this spoilers it for ya; but the monks give orders from their goddess to Batman and his team, as well as Ra's and his ninjas, to leave and they do as Nanda quakes up and the huge doors close. Then we're treated with a two page "family moment" between Alfred, Dick, Time and Bruce. That's it. We get nothing about Ra's, nothing about Talia and Damien, and this is what I feared and ended up getting in the end. And you know what? I believe now that DC should split their endings into two, or at least increase the page count, so there will be more of a definite conclusion to the entire storyline. And look at what's next with the two Batman books and Robin: Batman (starting with #673) and Detective will all branch from this storyline into new one, which I think they'll be making as some sort of epilogues. And with Robin; while Chuck Dixon begins his new run on the book, the fact that the plotline mentions this arc again brings up the idea that Robin also will include some sort of epilogue as well. So basically; the ending was rushed, and the letdown to this.
Overall, this was an okay ending. The battle was handled well, but with no insight on Damien, Talia, nor Ra's after the battle, and a two-page rushed ending to this storyline made it an okay end. I'll bring it up again that DC should look into if an ending to an arc like this would be not-so-good, thus allowing increase page count, or even another "chapter", to give it a definite conclusion. Well, Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul is done.
RATING: Okay
You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.
(crack!)
And I'm the surgeon.
