Hey ppl!
Just read this really cool book about Batman ... it's the deeper meaning behind reading batman comic books. it's called "Wisdom from the Batcave" the author has like a Phd in batman or something ... i highly recommend it ... ne1: else read it? thoughts?

well i entered in the BYTB contest and hope to win the book, but if i dont i plan on buying it.

I'm not all that interested in it. I usually get all the life lesson's and metaphors from reading first hand; so I don't really need a book to tell me what to think.

The Book doesn't tell you what to think.
Here's what it's about:
Wisdom from the Batcave analyzes the life philosophy that emerges from Batman comic books. This isn't a self-help book. It simply discusses the nature of Batman's moral structure and its impact on culture, aided with the personal lense of the author and his viewpoints.
Judging by the cover art, it probably isn't licensed by DC Comics, but it still looks interesting. I've thought about these ideas myself in relation to how I've grown up with the moral fibers of Batman. I love the sample page (linked by Beyond above) and the "What Would Batman Do?" concept in discusses. I'd much rather use that as a moral compass than some silly ancient book written by who knows who.

I read in an interview that Rabbi Friedman said that the book wasn't licensed by DC but that was only one reason why there is no bat insignia in the spotlight. He said somethinkg like he wishes he could have put a mirror in the spotlight to show that the spotlight shines for every one of us. The stabbing spotlight is not calling for batman... it's calling for us. Thought that was pretty cool. He's a rabbi btw... wouild be interestedin knowing how he would respond to that "...than some silly ancient book written by who knows who" line LOL |

It definitely would have filled in the spotlight well rather than just being blank as it currently stands. That just sort of ruins the design in my eye; it's big and bold yet there seems to be no point to it.

Yeah, I just get annoyed with people that claim that without a book of religious faith, humans would have no morals, which is entirely false. We've got proof right here in Batman. The author seems like a neat fellow, though, having written such an intriguing book.

Lets not make this a religous topic, mainly because there are so many different faiths. Everyone has different opinions, but one thing is certain, peoples morals have gfotten worse.
