As you may know, I always asked about Wonder Woman books. And after a question, a similar if not the same exact question being repeated might annoy some people. But thanks to you, I made my final, un-changeable decision on her and her books. So I thank you.

Now, its Batman.

As I collect the Superman/Batman series, the last big event he was in was the WAR GAMES series. I wanna know; do I really need War Drums? Because I would love to see Spoiler as Robin in it but its a prologue/set up for the main War Games storyline and may or may not be that important depending on the whole shoot in the barrel.

So should I get it? On a side note; if you think War Games is bad and a waste of time, please answer why you think it is.

You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.

And I'm the surgeon.

I don't think you'll necessarily miss any of War Games if you don't get War Drums. I enjoyed the stories with Spoiler as Robin, though - she had some pretty decent character development (especially in the story with Zsasz). She also had an attitude, but it was more unknowing or amusing than outright defiant.

As for War Games itself...I thought it was well told for the most part, but I didn't care for a lot of the developments. War Crimes was worse on this, as it threw out years of character development.

The only reason to get War Drums is to have the set-up stories for War Games. Sure you know how things started out now, but 5 or 10 years down the road (if you still care to read Batman) you might not remember. Then if you want to re-read the story you might get a little confused at the start. I just like to have a complete story, with as much of the set up as I can.

War Games wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good either. After reading 3 months and 20 -30 comics, I realized that they could have done the entire story in 4 or 5 comics in a single month and had the same results. War Games is hopfully the one of the last of the 80's and 90's style crossover. Way too many parts to tell the story. Look at Knightfall, they didn't need 10 parts to wear Batman down so Bane would break him. They very easily could have done it in 5. Sales don't go so great then though. Now I hope that we will see a more efficient use of comics. People might not complain so much about price if some issues didn't feel like filler to stretch the story out.

It's not necessary, but most of the stories in the War Drums trade are better than your average War Games story. It's a better invesment, IMO. War Games was okay, but it was far from great. The first act, in particular, is very uneven. Acts 2 and 3 are better. They're worth reading, I suppose. There are some really good moments in the stories, but the whole does not impress as it should.
