Is it just me?

I've tried SO hard to get into the Audio version of Knightfall - I just can't. There were a few of these in total - they had 2 Superman stories, Spidey, Judge Dredd (and I think some more). THey were all excellent - except Knightfall. It was a hard, confusing listen.

In case anyone hasn't seen it, it's available from Amazon in a 3CD box at not a great deal of money (if memory serves about $12). It's been available on cassette in various formats.

This was originally broadcast on Radio 1 in the UK in early 90s - and it was billed as an audio movie (it's got excellent sound effects). I remember when it was originally on, I actually used to time my break at work so I could hear it.

I've been listening to it again recently - by halfway through the 1st disc I didnt really have a clue what was going on.

Also, I haven't read (or revisted) Knightfall saga for a long time - but the connection in terms of storyline also seems very loose!

Confusing.

Not my favourite Dark Knight!

Part of the problem is that it takes around of years worth of comics and condenses it into a couple of hours of audio. Radio shows don't always convey the story well either, the exception to that rule being the excellent Ace of Detectives show.

I thought it did a pretty good job of summarizing things when I listened to the cassette a long time ago, but I have read the whole arc several times. I did think that the voice for Azrael was a little lame at times, but they did have to differentiate from Batman's voice.

Always feel free to look through the archives for an incorporating image. Chances are, it'll be there. wink

I've been curious to hear this. As you can see, it was released in various formats. Other comic stories like Kingdom Come and a set of The Untold Legends have been released, too; although, I don't think any of them were on the radio. If you're interested, they can all found in the CD and Cassettes archives.

I haven't heard the Ace of Detectives series yet but I'm looking forward to it. I've looked at the website and their is some other interesting looking stuff on there too.

Re Knightfall - of the 3 pictures above, for all it's worth, the left pictures (black cover) is the original BBC UK double cassette pack. The middle picture is the US version. The best cover (Batman on white background) is the current US CD version that I referred to as available from Amazon for about $12-$14. Although its got a great cover, the box is it - there is NOTHING inside it in terms of notes or program details. Here in the UK the BBC will shortly be releasing their version of it - if you want a small amount of reading and a few background details, I'd recommend their version - although for US buyers it'd probably be easier and cheaper to go with US version!).

Of the various other BBC Radio superheroes - the Superman "Doomsday & Beyond" story is currently available on CD, and I personally think it's a better story (or at least in audio sense) than Knightfall.

The Doomsday and Beyond story is better because it was orginally written as a huge flowing story. Knightfall splintered into several storylines throughout its release. The Superman story was a just easier to work with to make the collected novel that the radio drama is based on.

I was wondering why there was Jim Lee looking art on the cover of one of those since Jim was wrapped up in WildCATs (or was that during X-Men, memory is getting fuzzy) during Knightfall. It would make sense for a recent release of that to have the modern style art on it.

For anyone in the UK who hasn't already got this from the States; Knightfall will finally be released here next week.

I'm not a massive of this; but I'd definitely recommend you at least listen to it. Its ?9.99 for a 3CD set on Play so you can't say it's expensive.

The artwork looks a little better than the US version, and there was absolutely ZERO information or reading on it's US counterpart - and (assuming it's packaged in the same way Superman's Doomsday outing is), theres some decent info in the booklet. The US packaging was simply rubbish (apart from the box there wasnt any).

The sound effects are awesome, Batman is VERY Conroy like (and this actually pre-dates Conroy - and that's just made me wonder if he heard this before he was so fantastic). It's definitely got it's good points, although ultimately it falls a little short.

Are you sure it predates Conroy? Knightfall didn't take place in the comics until spring/summer '93, while BTAS premiered in fall '92.

thinking again Cale, you're quite right. And now you mention it I also remember listening to this on the radio whilst watching the 94 World Cup!

I think I must've been getting it mixed up with BBCs Superman - which (off the top of my head) was braodcast 90/91.

I was going to include some full size pictures of the covers and booklet (it looks pretty good - loads better than it's US counterpart) and also of the Superman audios - but I couldnt get the upload attachment section to work when I was posting.

If you'd like, you could email them to me. I could add them to the BYTB archives (crediting you, of course) and link from there. It's always interesting to compare the different continental releases.

Speaking of which, a few years back, I bought a VHS of ThunderCats: Ho not realizing it was PAL format. You wouldn't have any interest in it, would you? mad
