It's been a while since I've been able to pick up a comic book, and I feel terribal. The problem is I can't find any comic shops in my home town. And the only ways to solve this perdicament that I can think of is to shop online, Which is probably way to expensive to do frequantly, or I can get a subscription to one or two series.
So I want to ask you, Which should I do? And if I should buy online what website should I go to? Or if I should subscribe, should I go with Detective Comics or Batman?
And am I a dork for being a Batman fan and not collecting Batman comics? Can Batman escape before his time is out? Will the Joker get the last laugh?!
All these questions, and more, answered in the next few posts, same bat-thread, same bat-site!
Damn that was a lame referance. See, the lack of comic intake has made it so I can only referance the T.V. show and Begins. HELP ME!

Nah. It'd be pretty bad if your fandom was judged by how many comics you can afford or how close you live to a comic shop. They're so expensive these days, I didn't regularly buy them until the semi-decent War Games story began in late 2004. By that time, I had a pretty steady job and went to Dubuque (where my Comic World is) more often. It's about a 45 minute trip from my house, so I don't usually go on a weekly basis.
Someone on here may know about purchasing comics online. I think Beyond did (and may still) purchase them online, so he may have some tips.

Anyone have any recomendations as to what series I should look into?
I hear that Dini's having a good run on Detective Comics, and I don't know whether or not Batman is still in a story arch, the last time I managed to look at an issue (Which was probably a month old at the time:|) they were in the middle of a story arch.

I order from www.mailordercomics.com. They offer discounts of at least 26% on everything, and shipping isn't bad, either. You can have your comics shipped weekly, biweekly, or monthly, depending on your preference. I've been using them since November, and I have no complaints at all. Service is excellent, the staff is friendly, and the site is pretty easy to navigate. It takes a few days for books to arrive, I get them 5-7 days after they're relased. You order two months in advance. For instance, in a few days, the August order deadline will be here. These are for comics that will be released in October. I can make any adjustments I like to my order right up until the deadline.
I wouldn't recommend getting a subscription through DC. Books often arrive extremely late-- I'm talking a month or more, here-- and are always damaged. Not much of a price break, either.
As far as Batman books go, Detective is one you can dive into at any time. Paul Dini is writing done-in-one stories, so no multipart story arcs to confuse a new reader. Grant Morrison is just launching a 4-part story arc in Batman, which will end with October's issue, followed by a single issue story in november, and a new story arc begins in December. Robin has been pretty good, except one thing that happened a few months ago that I really didn't like. Been good despite that, though. Nightwing is awful right now, but should be improving with October's #125, when Marv Wolfman-- former Teen Titans writer, who is the one who moved the first Robin from under Batman's shadow and established him as Nightwing-- takes over the book. Legends of the Dark Knight is ending pretty soon, and will be replaced by Batman Confidential (pretty much the same book, with a different title). Basically, I wholeheartedly recommend Detective. Batman might be tough to get into right now, as the current story builds on a book that was published more than 20 years ago(although DC has put the book-- Son of the Demon-- back in print at a bargain price, only $5.99). Robin and nightwing are good bets if you're interested in the characters. Ditto Birds of Prey, which feature Oracle and the Huntress.

I really appreciated the reissue, since I missed buying it before now.
My main "gets" are Batman, Detective, and LotDK. Both Batman and Detective are solid reads at the moment, which is nice. Although the more recent stories are good, I really like some of the older LotDK stories; they had a lot more experimental concepts that made for interesting reads. Even the "lousy" stories were never boring
I've also started buying Catwoman since OYL, and so far it's been pretty good.

Well LotDK until it ends by the end of the year. I have been told: do not subscribe to DC Comics to get the books. Because either you have to keep on reordering when a title gets delayed and you pay more than planned and I've also heard the comics don't come in as good when they arrive.
You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.
(crack!)

So to recap, Online purchasing depends on where you go, but Mail Order Comics is great. For Batman the best choices a Batman, Detective Comics and Legends of the Dark Knight. Batman is usually in a story arch, and LotDK is going to be replaced with another comic series; But Detective Comics is Easy to get into and in a good run by Dini. And finally, DC subsriptions aren't worth s***.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.
