i made this pic ebtirely with photoshop. no scanning or anything. its pretty good. i used the same method as when i tried to make my self look like batman, except this time i made the mouth.

That looks pretty cool, Phil. The shading and everything seems to be done pretty well. As far as the outer shape is concerned, it could probably use more curviness, especially around the mouth. But I've never played with Photoshop, so maybe that's kinda tricky.
Something else I thought I'd add that I've found quite helpful; When drawing the human head, the eyes are generally in the exact middle between the top of the head to the bottom of the jaw. The bottom of the nose is almost perfectly between the eyes and bottom of the jaw, and the mouth is down 1/3 of the space between the nose and jaw (closer to the nose). I just learned that in my Drawing class last semester and it's very helpful.
