My initial proposals:
Baseball: Knights (based on the FILM "The Natural," an appropriate match for the city)
Football: Knight (I like this one from the comic and animated conventions)
Soccer: ??????
Stadium: Gotham Central Stadium/Grand Central Stadium (as a result of name bickering), commonly known as "Knights Field." The stadium itself bears all three names in its stone/concrete structure (comment on the typical screwy nature of municipal named stadiums). Also, imagine it set ON TOP of a major train station (like Madison Square Gardens over Penn Station). That would allow for interesting story arcs.
(You can tell, I have spent time planning that one, and even have a design, which I plan to eventually build on an electric train layout.)
Hockey: Gladiators (nice sound and fitting "goon" hockey well, which we would expect from Gotham)
Basketball: Jacks (mental image of a crowned Jack-o-lantern, striped like a basketball with a crown-> it just seems like an appropriate name for a Gotham basketball team name)
AFL: Beasts (sounds like a typical AFL team name and appropriate within the arena I have named)
Arena: The Colosseum of Gotham (based, generally, on shape and look of the original Roman Colosseum)
What do ya'll think?
Better ideas?
(Let's make a fan-based set of teams, which DC MAY pick up themselves . . . -maybe.)
Sum Nox!

I don't know about the Gotham Gladiators. I think they're NHL team should be a little more gothic and hard-edged. My pick would have been the Gotham Dark Knights, but unfortunately every other Gotham team has "Knight" in it.
Perhaps the Gotham Knaves? With a picture of a psychotic jester as their logo? Perhaps one all to similiar to a certain psychopath? Then perhaps something similar to "Joker's Wild" from BTAS could happen?
But Gladiator's is a good name. I just can't picture it in the NHL for some reason, I guess I'm just weird lol

Present NHL teams:
Anaheim Ducks
Atlanta Thrashers
Boston Bruins
Buffalo Sabres
Calgary Flames (formerly Atlanta Flames)
Carolina Hurricanes (formerly Hartford Whalers)
Chicago Blackhawks
Colorado Avalanche (Quebec Nordiques)
Columbus Blue Jackets
Dallas Stars (formerly Minnesota North Stars)
Detroit Red Wings
Edmonton Oilers
Florida Panthers
Los Angeles Kings
Minnesota Wild
Montreal Canadiens
Nashville Predators
New Jersey Devils
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Ottawa Senators
Philadelphia Flyers
Phoenix Coyotes (formerly Winnipeg Jets)
Pittsburgh Penguins
San Jose Sharks
St Louis Blues
Tampa Bay Lightning
Toronto Maple Leafs
Vancouver Canucks
Washington Capitals
Also, the ECHL Thrashers minor team is the Gwinnett Gladiators, so the name is not unheard of within Hockey.
While on it, Atlanta's previous (mid 1990s) IHL (high minors) team was the Atlanta Knights: http://en.wikiped...a_Knights
Gladiators fought and killed for a living (and survival), with skill and brute force. Seems to fit the NHL pretty good to me.
Also, 3 NHL teams are "Hey, we are Canadian," namely: Maple Leafs, Canadiens, and Canucks (derogatory term for a Canadian).
Seems appropriate, even with alliteration, BUT, that's me.
