I promised I would provide something on Batman 1969.
And here it is.
Batman 1969 is a production that explores what might have happened if the 1966 Batman series had been serious and noirish. Imagine, if you will, if the series had begun in 1961, and the lead character had been clothed in the same manner as in Batman: Thrillkiller.

And then imagine if it had many of the same things as the 1966 series, such as the Batcave and Batmobile.
Also, throw in a crossover with the crime drama The FBI:

Add in a little weirdness befitting The Twilight Zone!
And finally, add in a Catwoman who has defected into becoming a heroine, 32 years before the fact!
Chances are that I may shoot this in Upstate New York. In an earlier post, I mentioned Schenectady; that would at least be for downtown shots. Utica would also be for neighbourhood shots, and I hope to do something in the countryside as well.
The first draft of the script is completed, and more revisions and (especially) additions are on the way. Some casting is already done, though I still need to get the lead characters cast. Though much remains to be done, this production IS going to be done, and it will make quite a homage to the shows that have influenced this!

It looks like I will need to provide some sort of update on Batman 1969.
I got interest from someone in Canada concerning the project, and it looks like shooting will likely take place in Hamilton and London, Ontario. I am also adding in Batgirl, The Green Hornet and Kato into the mix, and the Bats will use a "Thrillkiller" theme for costuming.
Additionally, the second draft will include back story that will cover some interesting territory. I am looking forward to this very, very much!

I'm looking forward to it very much. For a long time I've been dreaming up how the 60's Batman show/movie would have been if it was taken seriously, and it's interesting to see how differant our ideas are.
I note your saying the word "series" a lot; so is this going to be a serial or just one movie?

Good to hear you're making some progress, Catfan. Hopefully the production (well, heck, sounds like you're still in pre-production) goes smoothly. Have any ideas for casting the lead roles yet? Make sure to keep us posted.

Batman 1969 is planned to be a one-shot deal, though popular demand could cause more such productions. My planned series is tentatively titled Bruce, Selina and Carrie, and would involve Batman, Catwoman and Carrie Kelly.
Adam West, who grew up with the comic book, had wanted to do Batman in a serious vein. I wish, for his sake, that he had. We are going to explore this.

Here's an update:

Batman: I am casting myself, because I want to portray the character in the manner that I want?something like William Reynolds (The FBI, shown at left in the photo above).
Catwoman: I have mentioned the role to a Hollywood actress when I went to the Twilight Zone Convention last month in New Jersey. Odds are it would not work out, but she is open, so I have to work on the script. If she does not work out, I would need to look in Ontario.

Batgirl: I have someone in mind from California; she has a nice look to her. Again, if she does not work out, then I'll look in Ontario.
Green Hornet: Tenatively cast; he's from Hamilton, and was the one who inspired me to take this to Canada.
Kato: No one yet.
Commissioner Gordon: No one yet.
And I still have to cast for Inspector Lewis Erskine and SAC Tom Colby; they are in the photo at top.

Progress IS being made on Batman 1969.
Even as I work on the Second Draft, I am starting to look at casting. Here is a rundown:
[*]Batman: Pretty much taken care of.
[*]Catwoman: I approached a notable actress about this. If she passes, then I would like to approach one of our felines on this board to do the role. Be prepared to have good acting chops.
[*]Batgirl: Still tenative.
[*]Green Hornet: Jon Rooke of Hamilton, Ontario will play this role.
[*]Kato: Open. Jon has talked about the idea of a female Kato, and this does not sound like a bad idea at all.
[*]Commissioner Gordon: The role is open.
[*]Alfred Pennyworth: The role is open (though I wish I could get Peter Mark Richman).
[*]Aunt Harriet: The role is open (though I would like to see Yvonne handle that role, in the way that she can; it'll be a different interpretation).
[*]Inspector Lewis Erskine: The role is also open.
[*]SAC Tom Colby: I think we have someone up in Canada.[*]Assistant Director Arthur Ward: The role is open.
[*]Scarecrow: I discussed this briefly with a friend of mine in 2005.
[*]Mole Hill Mob (3 people): Open, though I have an idea for the female in the trio.
[*]Mrs. Powell (Scarecrow's landlady): A friend of mine will take the role. She is a blood relative of Eartha Kitt, and we work together at Macy's.
And: We would like to find a Jill St. John lookalike to play Molly's sister. We also want this person to play Carrie Kelley in future productions.
Main production will be done in Hamilton and London, Ontario, with at least two scenes to be done in Upstate New York. If anyone affiliated with Batman, The Twilight Zone or The FBI would like to work with me, give me a holler. The same is also true of members here.
Batman 1969 is not an exact carbon copy of the 1966 series. It'll be more noirish than what you are used to, but it still will have much of the same spirit as a show from the first season. I am trying to say as little as I can about what I have in mind, because I want to surprise everyone, but casting is only beginning. And we intend to begin shooting in early 2007.

I got these photos from my friend in Hamilton, Ontario! These were taken two weeks ago. Apparently, both Harley Quinn and "Puddin'" are Spanish; he is a Hamilton native. Nice, aren't they?
I post these here, because I will be working with the Batman in the photo; he'll be The Green Hornet. Enjoy!

I had a two-hour conversation with the Green Hornet up in Hamilton last night. Things are shaping up further and further, which is excellent news. I plan to get a new Web site going for Batman 1969, which will provide information on casting and other such things. We hope to get things moving more quickly on the production.
And we would like to hear from you, too!!!

Just a minor question, but are you going to try and reflect specific '60s styles (hair, clothing, colors, vehicles, etc.) in this film or is it a more modern take on a serious '60s Batman?

To answer your questions:
Most of Batman 1969 will be shot in Hamilton, Ontario. Gun battle scenes may be filmed in Upstate New York. I have been in contact with a film maker in Liverpool, NY (Syracuse). But most of this will be filmed in Canada.
As for the time period, imagine if Batman was entering its fifth season. The time period will either be September or November 1969, and the styles will reflect that time period. Imagine, if you will, if we took the same noir tone as "Hi Diddle Riddle"/"Smack In The Middle," and threw in some Twilight Zone elements as well.
And we are currently casting for performers. I hope to get a site for the film up shortly, detailing what we need. Believe it or not, we already have both a Batmobile and Black Beauty lined up!

I'm liken the way this is shaping out. I can't wait! I would love to play a role, but there are several reasons why I can't:
1.) I'm only 13.
2.) I live in Australia.
3.) I don't have the money to go on an aeroplane.
4.) Even if I had the money, how would I let my mum let me?

I really wish I could help:
1. Age is no problem. You could easily be an extra.
2. If you were only closer to Canada ...
3. It's a problem faced by many people. I do understand.
4. I don't know what to say there.
But for those who do live in the Northeastern US and in Eastern Canada, you can contact me if you'd like involvement in any way (acting, filming, costuming, etc). Lilkewise, if you can travel to the Niagara Frontier of New York/Ontario, this offer applies as well. And let me know if you have any questions.
