Well . . .

We just got a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria for cheap (bought through the estate of wife's grandfather). This is the first gen "sleek" Crown Vic.
The paint is shot and the interior (a greenish gray) is in need of some TLC, though not "shot." The mechanics are in good shape, though.

I have had the "nutty" idea of making a "Batmobile" out of it. Eventually, it might become a "Furstmobile." but for now it needs to remain a functional 4 door (small kids).

I am not planning any particular "comic base models," but a general "Batmobile." It has the size of the larger cars.

Any ideas?

(Section appropriate as I WILL make a 1/43 version of the "Bat Vic" as well, probably first.

Something of that size, I'd recommend going with a "first generation" look. Any parameters of how far you're willing to go with it (ie, do you want to keep it to paint only at this point, paint and minor mods, or will you be doing some 'glass work)?

Not sure.

Right now . . . I'm thinking a modernized version of the 50s car.

It will (ultimately) be a multi-staged process.

I got it taxed, registered, and tagged yesterday. The tag is 4 numbers then "DK" . . . DARK KNIGHT!
What better COULD I have asked for with a non-customized tag?

Thoughts, as of Dec. 29, 2007:

Stage1- Subtle (70s style)
Paint navy or black
repaint/replace "Ford" logos with Batman oval
"Batmask" on grill or hood

Stage 2 (need to work out HOW to build):
Add detachable "fins" anchored into the trunk lid.
"Batmask" linked on grill and front plate area (no state front plates)

Interior:
New radio
many subtle "Bat" touches.

Thoughts?

(At least ONE emblem WILL be a "St. Andrews saltire emblazoned with a bat!)

I would Check out Spencer's site for
key features, that would make it
a Batmobile...

Fins, Batmask on the grill and Bats
on the wheel rims...

Red becon light and color...

How about since its a four door,
look at a possible take on the Black Beauty...

Just a few Ideas...

Keep us posted with a Thread...rolleyes

Ironically, . . .
I have pulled out my Green Hornet (1966) DVD and have been watching it.

All the car would need is black paint and I would need a hunter green fedora and green sunglasses.

Though, a modern Chrysler 500 would make a GREAT Black Beauty. In fact, I am converting a cheap Maisto 1/43 one into a Black Beauty (very easy to do).

The Crown Vic would do OK. However, I would need to "black-out" the side chrome and alter the taillight area to make it satisfactory to me.

The interior would be VERY easy for me to "play with."

However, unless the movie ACTUALLY gets made, NO ONE will know what it is supposed to be.

Interesting . . . the ACTUAL Green Hornet "Black Beauty" car in South Carolina is only an hour or so from me. I REALLY need to email the guy and go see it.

That's how I'd do my Batmobile. Simple but provides adequate protection and blends in with traffic. Now, how much would gel-filled tires cost?

Well . . .

Cruiser is DEAD.
The engine cooked.

Now . . .
I need a new car.
-> The BLACK 2006 RX-8 in a nearby used car lot is looking REAL good to me!
(The kids LOVE it too. Now, IF I can just get the WIFE on board . . .)

(The letters of the former Crown Vic's tag (which I will transfer to the "new to me" car will be PERFECT-> DK (Dark Knight).

Update:
2 weeks, almost to the hour, after the death of the CV, I will be picking up my brand new Scion xB- in silver.

The tag will still have a DK as the only letter on it.

I keep thinking of this article/blog Spencer1984 has linked on his BatmobileHistory site:
http://daveslongb...-ass.html

Esp:
"I hate to say this, but what would make the most sense for Batman is to have a series of black Ford mini-vans stashed in monthly parking lots all around Gotham. He could change in the back or stitch up his wounds without drawing any attention to himself. Most of the time he could just take his private subway into town, but if he needed a ride, he'd have a van parked within blocks."
BatScions-> xBats, so to speak, would be a good candidate for a subtle, utilitarian, pleb Batmobile.
There is a supercharger for it now. One day, I'll probably get one. It is even covered by the factory!

Getting off-topic . . .
Also, my preliminary nickname for the xB is "Aluminum Falcon." Now, name the origin of that phrase!
-I'll probably change it as I get to know the personality better.
