I know this has nothing to do with batman but still i liked the first four issues and the Amazing Spiderman tie ins so here is the basic plot:
Beware from the spoilers:
A group of superheroes called the runaways(or something like that) is filming a tv reality show, they ambush a group of supervillains wich they "defeat" all of them except Nitro(a guy with the power of make himself explode) wich makes a big explosion that destroyed the town. The goberment makes the initiative of put a Superhuman Registration Act, wich indicates that all heroes must registrate or be arrested in order to have more responsible heroes. S.H.I.E.L.D. try to make the Cap.America register but he refuses so they try to capture it but he escapes and the Resistance to the SHM(secret avengers) Tony Stark(Iron Man) informs to the president that he will deal with the Cap and his followers, the Superhuman task force side is born.
Spidey is convinced by Tony Stark to take of his mask infront of the press.
A battle of both sides shocks all of them for the return of the mighty Thor! who kills Goliath, it is later revealed that he was a clone, the heroes change sides(one of them Spidey who was attacked by Iron man when he tries to escape from the Stark tower)At the end a reformed group of villains are introduced as the new Thunderbolts(or something like that)
the story still will be continued....

The young supergroup was the New Warriors. They are the knock off Teen Titans of the Marvel U. They have been around for a while though. I would not say that the villains are a team that will have a name. More just a group that they decided to send out against Cap.
I have really enjoyed the miniseries (I haven't picked up any of the tie-ins). This is the first main universe Marvel comic I have bought in close to 10 years. I am not huge on the issues full of talking head, but ther eare som really cool concepts there.
One of the best things has been all the parodies that are all over the web. If you look around enough comic blogs and websites you are bound to come across them, but it has been nice to get the jokes.

I was wrong the villains team is the Thunderbolts, or Project Thunderbolt, or something like that.
Issue 5 was pretty good. This darn series is enough to get me interested in Marvel again and totally screw up my comics budget. I do wish that so many scenes didn't start in the middle of things like the Spider-man/Iron Man scene. Things did get really cool from there.

Took long enough for me to find this thread, but the last issue comes out tomorrow. So, while you are picking up the first issue of Brave and Bold toss Civil War #7 into your buy pile.

There's a Prelude to Civil War trade that came out a week or two ago. I picked it up because I have been reading the main mini, but I have almost no knowledge of recent Marvel Universe stuff. That would probably be a pretty good place to start.

I'm mildly interested in this, so I preordered the trade when I placed my order for March. I'm also planning to pick up the Spider-Man CW trade, since I usually get most of the Spider-Man trades anyway. It irritates me how overpriced Marvel's trades are, though. They've got a $25 cover price for the CW trade, which is the same price DC charged for their hardcover of Infinite Crisis, which was larger and had lots of extra content, too. Marvel's trades are almost always at least $5 too much. The preordering discount helps take the sting outta that, though.

Well it has been over for a little over a week. Thoughts?
I wanted to wait until I finished my Road to Civil War trade that I picked up. It didn't really change my opinion of Civil War much though, but it did have the only Fantastic Four story that I have ever liked, and the Spider-man issues are pretty good.
I felt a little let down. Obviously there is probably more on the horizon, as tends to be the trend with this new level of mega-crossover (technically Infinite Crisis is started with Countdown and will not finish until May 2008, unless something else comes along to extend it). I will probably not pick up the follow-up stories for budget reasons, and I have not seen any sign of another miniseries.
It is a good story that makes you think, but I can't help but feel that I have read the premise before in X-Men. How is the superhero registration act any different than the mutant act? I told my wife about the story the night before Civil War #7 cme out and she (who only really has exposure to comics through the movies) said didn't they already do that with X-Men.
That may be why they were neutral in the story. It would have been entirely too familiar if they used the same characters as were used the last time this story was told.
Ignoring that, it is a good story with some awesone art. Some great points are made that have not really been addressed in comics before. I think that if we lived in a world like the Marvel Universe, the public would have pushed for registration as hard as they did in the story. That brought it closer to home. It probably would have not taken the tragedy in the first issue to get it passed either.

Came across THIS on Newsarama. It is pretty interesting to see how Civil War started and ended up what it was. It is definitely worth reading for the Hulk babies part.

I've given up on this before I've even started. There was the prelude to Civil War trade, and I thought I'd get it, but I never got round to it.
Next thing, Civil Wars books were everywhere. Everyone had one! I wouldnt have the faintest idea how or where it all ties in (if it even all does), and I doubt I'd get round to reading them all even if I could afford them - so I just said no.
Thought you were a bit harsh on FF there Darknight (but I guess if that's the way you feel then thats the way you feel!). |

I read the trade a month or two back, whenever it arrived with my order for that month. It was better than that House of M garbage, but still fell flat. It had a very good setup and lots of potential, but it devolved into nothing more than a fistfight, and the ending was the very definition of anticlimactic. Pacing was off in several key areas, and the whole thing was just a disappointment overall. I usually find Mark Millar's work very overrated, but he normally does better than this. The art was good throughout, though. In the end, this isn't a trade I'm going to keep.
