As for the Miyazaki films, they are quite artistic and the characters are very 3-dimensional... permited you're watching the Japanese dub; the American dubs are from Disney and, with few acceptions, suck.
The Graphic Novels were Hush and Dark Knight Returns, I'd previously read bits and peices and loved them, but never got the chance to own the entire collections. And I say Loeb is the best Batman writer ever, he's got just about the best Batman characterization I've seen.

Then it can't have been Ghost In The Shell! Because that definitely didn't happen! Needless to say it's now on my Amazon rental list! & suddenly Amy is interested in Manga!
Boxing day TV had the 1st Johnny Depp Pirate film - I thought it was good for about the 1st 20 minutes and then quite frankly I just got bored and stuck a BTAS DVD on.
Work in the morning - I can't remember Christmas seeming to be over so quickly!

Well if you don't know, "Manga" are Japanese comic books; in the movie version of Ghost in the Shell there is nudity, and maybe a few sexual and drug related referances, but no orgies that I recollect. And in the T.V. show there are many sex and drug related referances and plots, but no nudity or sex. And don't get to accited about the manga, they don't show what goes on... Erm... Bellow the belt.
An interesting thing about Anime, a lot of them are aimed at wide audiences, so you could be watching a T.V. show aimed at young teenage girls, but see many "Fanservices"; needless sexual over-tones and nudity that are ment to attract a larger audience.

Anime seems to be really catching on now in the UK - I notice in places like HMV and Virgin they've got pretty comprehensive sections. I don't think that's always been the case.
I always thought it was all like Akira - lots of Bladerunner type fight scenes (and I say that without having seen it). But looking at some of the cover pix, that doesn't seem to be the case (far from it infact).
On & off, I've always read comics; but it's funny - it was (I think) round about 2000 someone gave me a video of Batman Animated and told me I should really look at it (they knew I was a Batman fan and they'd be raving about it to me for a while), The opening credits alone had me hooked, and I've been a massive fan (of not just BTAS, but) animation ever since - I've still never moved into anime though.
