6 years ago, our country was attacked. To this day, I tear up thinking about all those lives that were lost.
This thread is a rememberance thread. Nothing more. You can say where you were when it happened, how you feel, or words to family members. Though none has ever contacted me, with nearly 10,000 hits aday, I'm sure someone who has seen this site, has been affected. In fact, real-dark-knight recently said he lost someone.
I say this, because I remember last years thread, anyone who gives their opinion on our Country's leaders, the curent war, or anything that could cause an argument, you will be banned.
Again, use this thread to remember those who lost their lives, those who gave them in helping, and those who have died serving America, and of course, those who are serving, that hasven't seen their familes in months. If you have a story to tell, please tell it. If you have a prayer to say, say it.

I was a freshman in college when it happened. I was waiting for class to start when my professor came in and said "Did you guys hear about the plane crash in the World Trade Center?" None of us knew so we all went into a lab room where there was a TV and the second tower was in smoke and all of a sudden we watched it collapse live. Everyone started crying. Anyone who had family down there kept trying to call them but cell phone service was cut off.
Classes were cancelled and a bunch of my friends and I ran to the side of the Hudson River. There we could see from our campus the smoke from Manhattan. We were at least 30 miles away but the smoke was enormous.
That night, my friends held a prayer circle by the Hudson River. |

I was working at a hospital at the time. I worked in the Intory department. I remember the mailroom person, her sister called to say a plane with the Tower, we all thought it was a small plane, then the second one hit, so a few of us went to a waiting room and watched it for awhile, I'll never foget the feeling I had when the towers fell.
Later, once we were able to get through the day, I drove one, and it was weird. I mean it was so quiet, it was 4 PM, yet it was quiet, no planes, or choopers.. well, cept for three streaks of smoke, which we guessed was Air Force One and the figters. We heard this loud boom, and to this day I swear it was a Sonic Boom from the planes.
I can't believe it's been 6 years....

I was in school at the time i remember the silence in the class the tears of grief watching it on t.v seeing a plane ram in to a building at such speed seein peoples death it stiil make feel depressed now

I was at work, and I didnt see it as it happened, I was listening to the radio however. When I got home later that day everything that had happened had already done so. Even though I knew everything, it was still tough and actually quite surreal watching it on TV. It was on in the kitchen and my dad was sitting watching it too, we didnt even speak for a couple of minutes.
One of the things I liked after 9/11, people wearing FDNY t-shirts were quite common here (I'm in the UK). & yet I'd never seen one before that day.
Another thing that sticks in my mind - at lunchtimes I often go to the Abbey next to where I work. Even though I'm not religious, I love it there. It's busy at times, but it's easy to find a quiet spot and read (it's a big place). There are 4 or 5 rememberance boards and places to light candles etc. A couple of days after 9/11 I remember a child (clearly a child from the writing - I'd guess a young child too, probably just about old enough to write) put a note up that said "Dear America, please get well soon" - I remember that left me a bit choked.
A guy I was school with actually worked at the Twin Towers. He was the first person I thought of as it unfolded. I telephoned another friend of ours and we found out the day after that he'd the day off! Can you imagine? Of all the days to be doing something else. It becomes very personal then and even though many many people didn't get out, the one you know of wasn't actually even there. It was just complete relief on that individual level. The person who Beyond mentioned in the opening post, I wasn't aware of until a couple of weeks later. When I think of his parents and his sister, that leaves me choked too.
& I too can't quite believe it was 6 years ago.

My friend's father worked at the World Trade Center and she was frantically calling him to find out if anything happened to him. I think he ended up oversleeping so he wasn't there when the planes hit.
Honestly, I can't believe its already been 6 years since it happened. |

i was in elementary school when it happened. everyone was going home early cuz their parents were all freaked out about it.
we were kids, so we were all just naive. i remember there being a lot of terrorist jokes about middle eastern kids once i got to middle school. it's not something to joke about, but i think as kids, it's just funny to us. well now i'm in high school, and things have died down since then...but those jokes still linger. anyone see the new harold and kumar trailer?

Well... I was scared snotless when it happened. It was like all the security I'd always taken for granted was stripped away. I remember sitting outside listening to the emptiness. I live in a town right on the aproach to a pretty major airport, so it's disconcerting to sit outside for hours and not any planes. My Dad said "I've got the feeling this is only the tip of the iceberg." So ever since I've kinda been on edge with the feeling something much bigger is going to happen.

It was crazy, i remember i was in the 6th grade talking about history and another teacher came in and wispered to my teacher. We ended up turing on the TV and i saw the 1st tower with smoke and i wondered why everyone was throwing a huge fit over a building on fire, so i asked. Our teacher explained why it was so hoarble and the room got deadly silent.
Then i looked over at my friend to ask her a question and there she was silently crying, so i gave her a hug. we watched it for a good hour, untill they started repeating things. then we came home and watched it on the news. While i was at home my dad and i hurd a sonic boom from behind our house, and there is a base beind hour house, so we thought that it was being attacked, but dad was like no and explained to me what it was.
that night it was hard to fall asleep wondering about all the people that died and all.
God bless America and watch those family's that are missing a member.

OK, NOW I feel old. I was driving to Asheville, NC. I has finished my first masters degree already. I was trying to piece together a sermon for that Sunday. Everything changed.
