Last night Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver fame performed "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. It's the first time in years that I've heard a Christmas tune that brought a tear to my eye, and I'm quite glad that it woke up my Christmas spirit, as I've spent most December kind of depressed.
Christmas is usually the time of year when we hear America's most untalented celebrities make crap CD's of ear spliting, God-awful renditions of our favorite Christmas songs of yore; so to have my favorite singer perform one of my favorite Christmas tunes brings me joy.
So a bow of the head to Weiland, A tip of the hat to who ever booked him for the show, and a wag of the finger to all the damn suits who insist on giving hacks like William Shatner and Rachel Ray Christmas CD's without even considering real artists like Scott Weiland.

Unfortunately, I can't find it on Youtube. That sounds cool though. If I'd known about it, I would've tuned in. Scott Weiland probably wouldn't be in my top 5 favorite vocalists, but I like him quite a bit and have nearly every Stone Temple Pilots record (just need Shangri-La Dee Da).
Honestly, I've noticed this year that I'm really getting sick of any and all Christmas songs. The holiday comes back sooner every year and before you know it, you start hearing the songs again. Plus, I keep hearing people try to mess around and add modern sounds to an old fashion piece of music and it always sounds awful, like the commercial where they add this fast snare drum to "Hear Comes Santa Claus." I think they're desperately trying to keep the songs interesting as the holiday returns only eight months after it last left, but it only makes them worst.
Note: I modified the thread title in attempt to appeal to more people so they'll check it out.
Yep, Holiday music is getting more like that, which is why I cherished this preformance; just classic instruments and Weiland's classy voice.
And I'm sure someone will Youtube it soon.
P.S. I don't like the term "X-mas"; while most people think it's just a short version of Christmas, it's really a spelling used to demean the religous influence of the holiday by taking out Christ.

Didn't know that, you learn something everyday!
However, I'd have to wholeheartedly stand for the defence of William Shatner CDs - his Shakespeare LP set to music (with the odd Beatles & Dylan track thrown in for good measure) is my favourite ridiculous LP ever! It is truly a gem in the stupid stakes. You've gotta hear it. And I can truthfully say I'm not, and never have been a Trekkie! It is just a blindingly stupid, pompous masterpiece!
Incidentally (& irrelevant to topic) Razhwurz, I was walking thru Oxford Street the other day and I saw some guy in a shop window, doing what I though were exercises of some sort - turned out to be tennis on a Wii - I now know what you were talking about! I don't do games but that looked good!

The thing that gripes me about Shatner's CDs, even if they're hilariously awful, is that in the place of one there could be an awsome CD; like a Weiland Christmas CD, or at least a CD from someone who has a tiny iota of talent.
And if you've not heard Weiland sing; do. He's one of very few singers who are completely versital. In his career he has released songs with grunge, beachboy, lounge singer and good ol' rock n' roll influences; each while still keeping his one distinct sound. He also has an extraordinarily large vocal range, in terms of height and transitions.
So I'd rather have a moving, well preformed profesional album by a man I just about consider a God; rather than an album by someone who thinks (erroniously) that he's all that.

It really depends, X stands fro Christ in Greek, though most people don't know that, I'm mixed on it.

Interesting point. I doubt most people do it to get rid of the religious aspects, but there may be some. I honestly just put "X-Mas" in the title because I thought spelling it all out would be a bit too long, sorta like how people write "X-Mas Special" on a VHS tape so they don't have to cram the words together. But it's fine either way.
If I find someone uploaded Weiland's performance, I'll be sure to link it here.
