I have some news for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans in the BYTB boards, particularly fans of the current / 4Kids / 2K# cartoon series (2K3 meaning the 1st 5 seasons, 2K6-2K7 being Fast Forward, and 2K8 for Overload ) . I wanted everyone to know about a promotion by 4Kids TV 's website on choosing the new theme song for the upcoming 2K8 season/series known as " Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : Overload " , which starts in fall 2008. But before I do, I think I'll do a quick refresher to remind fans of the situation ( Which is also good for those unaware of the current situation ) .
Back in 2006, after the end of the 4th season of the current / 4Kids / 2K3 series (Which did a major set up for Season 5) , both 4Kids Entertainment and Playmates (The toy company that does the TMNT toys based on the current cartoon and movie properties ) decided to skip the actual 5th season of the show ( Now known as either " The Ninja Tribunial Arc " or " The Lost Season " ) and decided to go with the 6th season concept known as " Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : Fast Forward " ( This apparently only happened in the U.S. for other countries have aired the 5th season before Fast Forward ) . In Fast Forward, the Turtles and Master Splinter are " Fast Forward " to the future in the year 2105 by accident thanks to Cody Jones, the Great-Grandson of Casey Jones and Apirl O' Neil. While adjusting to the future, the Turtles must also deal with new threats. Around 2007, 4Kids, Playmates, and Mirage Studios decided to end the Fast Forward concept, decided that they would air the actual 5th / lost season of the series in early 2008, and started to work on the concepts for the 2K8 season/series. After going through some pitches for the 2K8 season/series, they finally made a decison for fall 2008.
They decided to call the 2K8 series " Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : Overload " , and from what I can understand from the discriptions, in this series, as the Turtles and Splinter are returning back to the present, Viral ( A digital villian ) messes with their time machine, which while causes the Turtles to come back home, also causes Splinter to be trapped in Cyberspace. Not only will the Turtles have to re-adjust to life back in the modern world, they will have to deal with real world threats on the streets of NY, and find a way into Cyberspace in order to rescue Splinter or they risk losing him forever. It's also hinted that we may see the return of the Utrom Shredder ( In the 2K# series, the Utrom Shredder is the 1st verison of the Shredder the Turtles face off against, which is basically a Krang like character similiar to the orginial cartoon series. After the Turtles interference had help the Utrom's capture the Utrom Shredder and they banished him to an astoriad, Karai, the adopted daughter of the Utrom Shredder, became the 2nd Shredder. The Turtles then later have to prepare for the coming of " The One True Shredder " , AKA The Demon Shredder, which is the basis of the actual 5th / lost season known as The Ninja Tribunial Arc that's currently on 4Kids TV ) . Now that I got that out of the way, lets get to the topic of this message. Since this past weekend, and until Friday, March, 21, 2008(Good Friday), 4Kids TV website will be having a voting site for the new theme song for the upcoming Overload series. The promotion goes that if you don't vote, then Mikey will go his way and make his own song up. There are 6 songs to choose from, each with there own lyrics, themes, and type of music. For those who want to vote, go to the 4Kids link I'm about to provide, check out all 6 songs, select the one you like, and click on the "Submit" button. If you have more than 1 song that you like to vote for, and/or you wish to vote for a multiple # of times on the same song, then either go to the link again to the site, or hit the "Refresh" button on your Internet Browser on the window that's open to the site. The 1st 2 links are from the official Ninja Turtles website, with the 1st to the main site for the latest news and/or updates, and the 2nd to the reports from February 2008, which when you look at the date "Friday, February 29", you will see them mention about it. The 3rd-4th links are to The 5th Turtle Blog, with the 3rd having more info about the voting of songs, and the 4th to where you can download/listen to MP3 format verisons of all 6 songs(Either incase you wish to have it on your computer/C.D./Digital player, or you are having a hard time accessing the site due to Flash problems and what not). The last 3 links are to the 4Kids TV website site, with the 4th where you can listen and vote for your favourite theme song, and the last 2 from the 4Kids TV Buzz site, which mentions the lyrics of the 1st 2 songs(The 5th to Song 1, and 6th to Song 2), with the rest to be release later in the week.
In my opinon, Songs 1 and 4-5 are the ones that sound good to me, while Songs 2-3 and 6 sound pretty crappy. Since I typed my opinions as to why I like and dislike the songs, here's a link to the posting I did on the TNI message boards :
So, for any TMNT fans who like the current / 4Kids / 2K# series, go to the 4Kids link and vote for the song ( Or songs ) that you like ( Or at least that you can either stomach through or that you strongly feel fit the Overload theme ) .
I decided to look at the website and check out their toy archive. All I can say is wow. I didn't realize how many Ninja Turtle toys I had. There were so many!
