Where did the villains all get their suits? Please comment with proof of the origin. I wonder where Joker got his suit and how Bane decided to put on a vest and mountain boots, looking like a wrestler. I also wonder where Catwoman got her's, I hated it in Batman Returns. Please post with proof. Thanks. (:

This thread was inspired by a thread on BOF. I recently joined Batman on Film but I like this site a lot better with the forms and how organized it is. BOF looks like scraps of rumors. If Chris has contact with the owner, Jeff I think his name is, I recomend teaming up with him to redo his site design. It's a hasle to click a pic to get to the site and then click Fourms and then click a link to the fourms site.

Um......good question.
Penguin's costume is my favorite. I like the whole tuxedo look like in the comics and what not. He was also rather cute in Batman Returns. Hehe 
Burgess Meredith was styling in the 1960's Batman TV Series.

In an issue of Harley Quinn, Harley needs a new suit and goes to a "Criminals" suit maker to get a new suit.
I'm not sure about anyone else.

I always wonder about Scarecrow. Does he just make the mask out of scraps? And I don't get how Two-Face (in comics) could suddenly have white hair on half of his face because of acid along with the other paralel side of the suit.

I always wondered how Daredevil could've made his suit. I mean, he's blind ffs! "Oh my super hearing and feeling powers let me know exactly where to stitch and how long it is." Bull-fukkin-$hit! He'd come out with a costume that's got five arms, no head, and resembles a doctor octopus suit made on a hobo's budget.

The white hair is simply artistic license. That's when an artist decides to do something unrealistic for dramatic effect.
Anyway, you can't possibly hunt down all the orgins of character's costumes in the comic books... Simply because most of the writers haven't written origins for them. And that's the way it should be; I mean where is the fun of these things if you can't imagine things for yourself?
Take Two-face for example. All my life I've had this image of Harvey holding up either Sal Maroni or Rupert Thorne's tailor, forcing him to make a two-toned suit and telling him to warn the mob that he's coming for them. Now if they had a scene in BTAS where they explained that Harvey just so happened to have purchased a two-toned suit for a costume party it wouldn't have been nearly as fun as imagining the possibilities.
P.S. I seem to remember soem referance of Scarecrow sewing his own mask together in the show or in the comics, I just can';t remember where. Also, the book Art of Batman Begins specifically mentions that the movie's Scarecrow sews his mask together in a "fit of madness".

I ussualy make an escuse and say he got his suit from a costume party since I saw the Smallville episode with the old Green Arrow suit in a costume party. I didnt know it was in TAS. LOL

then there's the not-so cheap purple suit worn by the joker. you'd think it's just a purple suit but thats not crazy enough. plus harley quinn's origins show that its a jester suit from a novelty costume shop.
but I've always had my own ideas. like i always figured deadshot had his suit made in a similar way to bruce in the dark knight. i had always wondered how langstrom's pants stayed intact tho.....

Penguin is a rich blue blood, and when you're a rich blue blood there's only one respectable way to get a suit; tailor made.
Harley Quinn, there's another one I know for sure. She bought her costume from a costume shop before she sprung out Joker.
I assume Joker found his suit in a costume shop, and he either payed handsomely for it, or stole it and killed the owner. In TDK Joker probably payed for it as the suit is mostly made up of imported items (the gloves are custome made, $200, dyed sheep skin leather gloves imported from Australia, the socks are made by a company in England, and I have no idea where he could get a purple top-coat, but it's custom made so I imagine it's friggin expensive.)
These days Catwoman wears high tech burglary gear, so her cat-suit is probably something she bought with all the gear abd the mask is probably something she had custom made.

the riddler prob had his custom made as well. Bane doesnt really have a "costume" besides the mask. They're all psychos so they prob made them for the most part. Ra's and Talia wear fine clothes and robes and stuff but all the sickos from Gotham prob designed and made everything themselves.
Catwoman got her recent costume after a heist she helped pull. Mr. Freeze is obvious though. He needs it to live. Poison Ivy just barely covers up with leaves nowadays doesnt she??

As long as Penguin looks as cute as a button, I don't mind. As cool as everyone's suites and costumes are, Penguin is the best looking.

If it were me as the writer for Riddler's costume origin I would say that he just wore a dark olive green tux one day, bought a tie, stoll a cane from a random old man (prob would have killed him for fun being crazy), and then if you want him to have a hat you could say he got it from his dad. To make it disturbing you could say he killed him too for it. Thats just a smal idea from me. Maybe he could just find it in an old box.
Lets focus on the less obvious of villains other than Ra's Al Ghul and Penguin. Its obvious anybody could buy a expensive suit.

ive noticed alot of Batman's villians dont wear "costumes" they wear suits and stuff
Penguin, Riddler, Ra's, Black Mask, Scarface and Ventriliquist, even Two-Face and Joker as zany as their suits are

Batman has a strong 1930s-1950s "gangster" element to the villains. As such, many wear high-style suits rather than tights and odd-theme stuff.
Take the Joker, for instance. He has almost always worn either a purple tux, zoot-suit, or a high-style suit. The other times, he wears a story-related costume/get-up.
Batman leans more to realism than most "super-hero" comicbooks. As a result, most of the villains look (arguably) more related to reality than that generally shown in such media.
Most would either be tailor made, stolen, or homemade. The personality of each character would give an insight into how they came to dress the way they do.

If Nolan ever brings Catwoman to a Batman movie I would hate to see her costume homemade, I never really wish villains to be happy and be creative with designing a freaking suit design! If she is in the third, Lucius should make the suit and then Bruce could be introduced by Lucius and it would play out.

I think Nolan could introduce Catwoman into the series a really cool and different way. Like ya said TMMWrites, she probably couldn't get her suit by making it homemade. She'd have to have a thorough background, the way they did with Batman, to be pulled off in this series. |
