I think I remember seeing GPD and GCPD in The Dark Knight. But which one is official? Is it a version where you can use both? I have narrowed it down to GPD being short for the police and GCPD for SWAT members. I don't even understand why City would be in the name Gotham since it is a city alone. Could somebody clear this up for me? Thanks.

Gotham city is just the name Gotham is Short for Gotham City. That is just like that city Carson City its name isn't Carson its Carson City. Did I help clear tht up 4 u?
I think that I have probably seen it as GCPD more often. It is just an acronym that means the same either way. Which ever way you put it at that moment odds are people will recognize it.
