BYTB: How did the DC Action Figure Guide come about?

S.B.: I first pitched the concept to DC a little over five years ago. As a DC toy fan and freelance writer, I thought it was the perfect way to FINALLY declare my toy collection as a tax write-off. Smile

But seriously, for a long time the sheer number of photographs necessary to do the book justice made the project cost-prohibitive. Advances in digital photography now make the book much easier to produce, especially given the great wealth of DC action figures produced in the last few years alone.

I want to tell you guys that the new book will be AWESOME! It is really like having our Figure Archive published!

If you all have anything else you want to ask Mr. Beatty, please post it. I'm sure he would love to hear anything from all of you!

I have five of Scott?s Ultimate/Visual Guides and they are all awesome. I?m glad we?re going to get a book about all the DC figures. I have Star Wars: The Action Figure Archive by Stephen J. Sansweet and have been longing for one about DC figures.

Looks like the project is in great hands. big grin

The Interview is really good - only complaint is that it didnt go on longer.

Scott Beatty's Batman books are excellent.

The thing that scares me about the book, I've never bought an action figure - thats for the simple reason when I get one I'll start going mad on them - It would cost me a fortune. As it is I buy comics, books, records, CDs, DVDs, playing cards, Batmobiles, badges, patches and lord only knows what else. I'm scared when I read it I'll be spending money I've not got on more Bat stuff!

The section of photo's in Les Daniels Complete History (a lot of people moan about the layout of that book - I think it's excellent!) was a real tempting couple of pages; I nearly went out then and started looking for figures - this will probably flip me over the edge............

Excellent interview nonetheless!

Cheers guys.

I wonder if they truly will get all of them, I mean what if the put in just the core figures without variants?

Like, if they had Btas Bruce Wayne with Batman armor, but not the Bruce Wayne that came with Bruce Wayne Street Jet.

I hope they do have variants, because I look forward to having a good image of the Batman Returns Night Climber Batman, My first Batman action figure.

Trust me when I say, it does. Thats not to say they will take pics of all varients, but they will list them.

Start working out, because with all the DCU figures it's going to be heavy. Smile

Very cool. I may have to pick this up. It is too bad that they can't have photos of everything, but that is why we have Batman:YTB.
