LOS ANGELES - A New Mexico woman is suing 20th Century Fox Film Corporation alleging she was defrauded out of $4.4 million she was entitled to receive for the popular 1960s "Batman" television series.
Deborah Dozier Potter, whose father William Dozier was one of the producers of the show, filed the lawsuit Wednesday in Superior Court that alleges fraud, concealment and breach of contract.
She is an heir to her father's estate and holds a portion of the assets of Greenway Productions Inc. which produced the series four decades ago that Fox distributed, according to the lawsuit.
Both companies, Greenway and Fox, signed a contract in the 1960s, the lawsuit said. Another contract was also signed between Fox and ABC, the station which televised the show. In March 2005, Potter came across the agreement between Fox and ABC and discovered she was entitled to 26 percent of the net profits from that agreement as well.
"I wish it could have been avoided," Potter said from her home in Santa Fe. "Nobody likes litigation."
Fox does not comment on pending litigation, said Chris Alexander, vice president of 20th Century Fox Television.

This suit should not be too surprising. The series WILL be released. Batman is not the only series NOT to be released on DVD; there are others as well.

As if this needed more stuff holding back the DVD release. Hopefully things will work out eventually.

Yeah, hopefully they just get it over with and the fight to put Batman on DVD can continue less phased. It had enough crap to wade through already.

Not that it matters, but my brother's ex-girlfriend was a millionare since her mom sued a company that fired her. Needless to say, my brother's not exactly "set for life" anymore. :p

Well at least it's not one of those "Chili Finger" scams... We do have legal documentation proving her point, don't we?

Well, back to the topic at hand...

I apologize for coming to that conclusion, and I'm glad he decided to go to college instead of having a lot of money and dysfunctional in-laws.
And about the topic, do we really need to have 60's Batman on DVD; I know some of us, including myself, watched it a long time ago; but I couldn't stomache an entire episode back when they were playing it on TV Land a couple years ago. I can't imagine how long that DVD set would collect dust on my shelf.

The problem is way back in the 1960?s nobody knew in 40 years we would have DVD and people would actually buy whole seasons of TV shows.
For that matter, most of the actors in those shows stopped getting paid years ago and now that DVD offers another revenue stream, everybody that was involved, or in this case related to those involved wants a piece of the action.
The result is the people who want things like this, the fans, often never get it because of the greed and legal battles of people who really only care about the money and could care less about the fans.

It's not bad enough the series isn't currently showing on television...

I'm not sure if I'd buy it/them myself, unless I started watching the series a lot and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a historical part of Batman history, sure, but it still isn't much more than a goofball comedy show as far as its actual entertainment value goes for me.
