No. Superman represents all that is good. He's a metaphor for Jesus Christ and some say Moses. Superman always does what's right. That's what makes Smallville interesting. It shows what gets him to that point. But once he puts on that suit, he becomes an icon and a symbol for the world. |

You know that they are developing a TV series, and have even cast someone as Aquaman. Should be pretty cool. Hopefully it will not have too complex a background so that audiences can pick up on it quickly.

Don't keep your hopes too high. There are a lot of filler episodes. I think that the writers needed to get episodes to get them to episode 100 so they let a class of 1st graders write the scripts. This season has gotten so bad that I fast foward through some of the episode and never miss anything.

Oh well, back to the familiar season three/four mundanity. I really hope they cancel this show soon. Even if I am enjoying these first few episodes, I think that this idea has been milked for all it's worth and it should be allowed to rest in peace. |

Okay, first of all, this was a really well done episode in terms of acting(especially from Mack and Rosenbaum, more on that later).
Now, onto the story.
They killed off Jonathan so Lana wouldn't have to die.
Re-read that a few times, while thinking back to episodes like "Thirst" and "Spell".
You know that primal scream Reeve does after he lowers Lois' dead body to the ground in Superman: The Movie? You can probably see where I'm going with this.
There's not really much else to say about that.
Also, WTF was with Clark flying Lana up onto the ice cliff in the first scene?! He did NOT jump. Period. He didn't bend his legs or anything!
It was just like "Oh by the way, he can fly now. He's been doing it for a while, we just forgot to tell you. Our bad."
The biggest saving grace was Rosenbaum's first scene. He deserves an Emmy for it. His half-drunk, devastated, dead-serious performance was the best one he's given in the series, narrowly beating out his final confrontation with Lionel at the end of "Memoria" in Season 3.
Allison Mack was also really great, because she was playing it cool and happy but you could tell she was pretty hurt that she's not the only one who knows Clark's secret anymore.
I'm THRILLED Chloe didn't die.
Welling and Kreuk were both at the top of their game too.
The funeral at the end was superb, and would've been even more so if I wasn't blinded by rage at the Pa-for-Lana cop-out.
Seeing Lois 'dead' on the floor was easily my most satisfyed moment this season. Oh, well.
I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5, because it was a quality episode, but seriously, Jonathan swapped for Lana?
What the HELL! :upsetw:
Marge: Homer, I've got someone here who can help!
Homer: Batman?
Marge: No, a scientist!
Homer: Batman's a scientist.
Marge: It's not BATMAN!!

According to an interview that Kryptonsite did with John Schiender (Pa) He knew from Episode 9 that the 100th ep would be his last.
Is he dead in the comics now? I know he wasn't back in the Death Of Superman Arc.
Read the Interview Here: http://www.kryptonsite.com/schneiderdeath.htm

Ma and Pa Kent are still happily living on the farm in Smallville in the comics. Just appeared in Infinite Crisis #4.
Too bad the same can't be said for the TV series. This was an unbelievably bittersweet episode. It was probably the best episode of this season, but it had such a lousy result. I especially liked how well they were able to tie in everything changing because of the change in one event. That really shows that they put some effort into the story.
When Lana died at the beginning, my wife and I (especially my wife) were a little happy because her character is so useless and whiney. Then the time travel thing happened. I hate to see Schnieder go, he was one of the better actors on the show. At least we had the episode earlier this season with his reunion with Tom Wopat.
As far as Lex, this was one of his best episodes. It probably isn't that good a sign for the state of the show when the pseudo-bad guy is a better character than the main character. They do a great jjob of making you feel sorry for him.
Jonathan's death had a pretty good impact, but it didn't live up to Pa's death in Superman: The Movie. It just didn't have the moment or line like "All these powers and I couldn't save him."
Something else that bothered me was Martha's reaction with Clark. It seems like there should be a touch of bitterness that Clark went back to save his on again off again girlfriend at the sacrifice of his father.
It will be interesting to see where things go from here. Hopefully they will not bring in someone to fill in. Part of the impact of the story is lost if they try to substitute someone in. Also I would like to see Clark a little distant with Lana for a little while. His saving her killed his father. It makes for a better story if that affects him some.

Well, obviously this episode hasn't aired over here yet, but thankfully I long suspected it was Jonathan (and it would be kind of stupid if it were anyone else) so it hasn't been ruined for me! Didn't Clark fly in one of the early season five episodes? You see that energy surrounding him on the ground before he leaps up, right? That's flying in Smallville. |

Which avatar was that? Was it the one I have now, again?
Oh yeah, the Aquaman episode just aired over here. I thought I remembered hearing that on Smallville, Aquaman's origins would have something to do with genetic testing, and I was really bummed about that, but as it turns out, we never find out much about his origin, which I liked, because average TV watchers don't think it's silly, and comics fans aren't alienated.
By the way, does Aquaman actually make those water-ball things? I saw Mermaid-Man do that on Spongebob one time and I thought it was a really funny, but silly power. I never realised that Aquaman could actually do that. And can he really swim at super speed?
In the shadows I saw my destiny...
I would seek justice...
I would have my revenge... |
