Batblade
The Batman ShadowTek: Mattel, 2007. Asst K4024, SKU# K5756

Batman gets a TIE Fighter. The comparison to Star Wars is obvious with this latest Batman vehicle.

(Stealth Mode)
Like the other ShadowTek vehicles this one also ?Transforms Instantly? although not with a button. Rotate the cockpit around and the wing tips flip to an inside slant from an outside slant and the missile pods in the wing tips pop out with two projectiles in each one.

(Stealth Mode, Top View)
SPECS:
6 ?? long (closed) 5 3/4? long (open), 3 1/2? high and 8 5/8? wide (closed) 9 3/8? wide (open). It comes with four red projectiles and a fixed Batman figure in the cockpit.

(Stealth Mode)
PROS:
I don?t like all the different Bat-Vehicles, but this is really cool and worth picking up.

(Cockpit rotates)
CONS:
Again like with the Bat-Tank my main gripe is that it?s not in scale with the other The Batman figures. This is about 1/32 scale or so and about half as big as I?d like it to be. However it does display nicely with the Bat-Tank

(Attack Mode)
OVERALL:
Watch out Darth Vader, Batman has a new set of wings. As a toy this is really way cool. The mechanisms are solid and everything works just great. It has hours worth of play value. I wish it had landing gear so it would display a bit better, but maybe I?ll just hang it from the ceiling with the other Batplanes.

I grabbed the first one of these that I saw. The small scale means that it fits in with a lot of my other stuff perfectly, and I think with some detail work it will work perfectly.

My son likes this, but he doesn't want it because Batman doesn't come out. Great review though!

Thanks, Beyond.
The figure was actually less offensive than I thought it would be. You can barely see him in there, and he doesn't look as bad as a lot of the other molded-in figures. The other thing that was cool is that there's only one Batman: I expected there to be one in each cockpit, but the way the toy is designed, the central bit actually rotates around the figure.
Once I get him out of there, I'll post some pics in the custom toy area along with how much trouble it was.

cool toy! i thought it was the batwing...are they going to use the batwing later, or are they just gonna keep the batblade?
wow, i love ur avatar spencer!! transformers, lol. and i know it's not, but it could be like what the '66 batmobile would look like if it transformed into a robot.

Agreed about the number of different vehicles.
Excellent review - the pictures are so good you don't need to say a great deal.
I'm not one of the anti The Batman brigade (it's not BTAS by a long way, but it's still good), but I've never taken any of the spin-off toys. It tends to turn up in half price sales after a while, If I see this oddity I might pick it up for the novelty value (although I know I've publicly backed Inzo on the boards before when he tore into this).
The thing is, surely Batman would be piloting an X-Wing, NOT a Tie Fighter?? Or am I just being pedantic?!
I'm tired and I'm going to bed.....

It?s not a full figure in there, only from the mid chest and up with the arms bent at the elbows resting on a flat surface. The top of the figure is leaning slightly forward. There is a neat ?dome? (think half of a ball) behind the figure that neatly hides that back of the figure in Stealth Mode.
While there are plenty of screws holding it together I don?t see any on the center cockpit pod.

I know that I probably should have some cheese with my whine
but here it goes...What popped into the minds of the creators of
this vehicle??? I have one guess...Easter...:|
Listen Mattel a word of advice...If when deciding to create a
new flying vehicle for The Batman please just look at a object
that looks real cool as a flying machine...
Hint...Hint...The classic Batman comics Batplane or Whirly Bats...
Thank god that some-one did not look into a toliet bowl for
a idea...

If you look at the top views of the Batblade (and I think BYTB is the only pace to have such views) you can see the shape of a Bat. I see the influence of the B2 Stealth Bomber and of course a TIE Fighter in this thing too.

It ISN"T a "spin-off" from the show, but ACTUALLY appeared on the episode with Maxie Zeus and his flying battleship/fortress. It was VERY small, and shot down by a cannon on Maxie's
monstrosity and crash lands on top of it.
This is the episode that ends with Batman "officially" accepting Batgirl as a partner/sidekick.
I actually like it, but seem to remember it had a dome AND more vertical end plated (havn't found a pic, but will see it on the Season 3 DVD coming this spring -IF remembered correctly).

Nor did I, but I figure that if it went together, it can come apart. Even if it needs a saw

OK, it's bigger than I remembered.
I rethink a comment made on another thread.
It WILL work for a 1/43 scale diorama, especially if the end fins/verticals are redone (modified to make more vertical) or rebuilt completely (possibly too much work).

Great review and great pics from that awesome episode. I spotted this yesterday at TRU ($13) and Target ($10) along with some of the other new stuff. I was picking up the Target exclusive action figure 3 packs which were marked down from the ridiculous $20 each to a great $5 each. Glad to have Musker and Ivy along with other figures I hadn't picked up yet. The BatBlade certainly looked the nicest of the new vehicles to me. They're all a bit small but the new Batmobile and BatTank seem very skinny and I'm not sure if those are even show specific. I picked up the latest EXP Batmobile on a high after seeing the GearHead episode and that's fairly decent. Not The Tumbler but it fits well with the figures and EXP Batcave I'm displaying. |
