Batman
DC SuperHeroes S3 Select Sculpt (12?): Mattel, 2006. Asst K429 , SKU# K6364

The DC SuperHeroes series just got bigger. In essence this is a ?2-Up? of the Wave 3 Batman figure, but not really. There is also a 12? Superman based on the Wave 2 Superman on the shelves at Toys R Us, which is similar. This is Mattel?s second outing with a 12? Batman. The first was a ?2-Up? of Zipline Batman in 2003 and was released in three different versions (Gray/Black, Gray/Blue and all Black). The older figure was the better figure and articulated just like the smaller Zipline Batman. The new figure looks like the smaller one, but has just over half the articulation for some reason.

SPECS:

The figure stands 12 7/8 inches tall (to the ear tips) and has 13 points of articulation (Ball jointed shoulders. Cut head, waist and ?V? hips. Pin elbows and knees). Accessories include Batman Logo Display Base, no Batarangs or any other weapons/accessories

PROS:

It?s a great sculpt, and there is a lot of detail. It displays nicely with the lesser articulation although you?re almost limited to a standing straight up pose.

CONS:

At $29.99 it?s overpriced, it?s a solid $10 more than it should be. It has about half the articulation of the smaller figure and while that?s expected in some larger scale figures it does not have to be. Action Cape Batman from the Batman Begins line had nearly twice the articulation and was just a bit taller, not to mention less expensive. The figure has Ball Jointed head and shoulders, but not like the smaller figure. The head looks like a Ball Joint, but it will not look up or down. The shoulders are not true Ball Joints either like the smaller figures are. A ?T? crotch would have been better than the ?V? one on this figure and why are the gloves not articulated? There is no excuse for that, not at this inflated price point.

OVERALL:

It?s a decent figure, but unless it drops in price or goes on clearance you may want to pass on it. If your kids like bigger figures it has decent play value, it looks tough enough and should easily stand up the rough streets of ?Gotham? but no accessories is too bad. If you want a cool figure to stand on the desk and don?t mind the price then go ahead and get one.

I noticed that the Bat Logo on the chest is not etched in like the smaller figure. This leads me to believe that we?ll see other versions of this figure, just like Mattel did with the previous 12? figure, we?ll see.

no weapons, lacking on articulation plus for 32 bucks after tax is too much.

Yes, it was too expensive but I'm glad I got one as I have not seen any after Christmas.

I like this, since I think the sculpt is the best ever seen on any Batman figure in any scale, but I simply refuse to pay that much for it. When Toy Biz is releasing quality sculpts of Marvel's superheroes in the same scale with outrageous articulation, at HALF the price, it simply makes it even more ridiculous. Even now that Hasbro is doing the Marvel stuff, their Icons line is still a full $10 less than these offerings from Mattel. I'm really hoping Hasbro nabs the DC License when the current contract runs out, if they'll handle it with the same quality they're displaying this far with the Marvel license. Heh, it'd even be the first time since the Mego days both DC and Marvel figures were made by the very same toy company.

I don't think I saw this review. Great photos. This is a wonder sculpt and I'm not too surprised at the limited articulation, but I agree that the price is too much. And judging by your photos, he doesn't include any accessories other than the old display base. I haven't seen this in stores, but I'd probably buy it for $20. Really not sure where I'd put it though...
