Batgirl
DC SuperHeroes S3 Select Sculpt: Mattel, 2006. Batman / Batgirl Asst J2039 , SKU# K3320

The DC SuperHeroes series of figures gets even better. The all new Wave 3 Batman Review Here is now part of a Target Exclusive Two Pack that includes Batgirl. So far I have not seen Batgirl as a single carded figure, she appears to be only in this two pack. Not only is she Mattel?s first Comic Style 6? Scale Batgirl, she is only the second Female Comic Style 6? figure that they have produced. Supergirl from the Wave 2 is the other. Since 2003 when Mattel got the Batman license and through six other waves of Comic Style 6? figures, there have been no other Batgirl, Catwoman, Poison Ivy or Harley Quinn figures.

SPECS:
The figure stands 6 1/8 inches tall (to the ear tips) and has 22 points of articulation (Ball jointed shoulders and hips. Cut head, chest, biceps, gloves and thighs. Pin elbows, knees and ankles). Accessories include 1 Batarang.

PROS:
Like Batman, this is a great figure, probably The Best Batgirl Ever. The sculpt is a spot on classic comic look and compliments Batman really well. The articulation rivals Marvel Legends figures, but I think it is just a touch too much for a female figure. She has one open hand and comes with a Batrang.

CONS:
While I like the chest cut joint on Batman it does not work as well on Batgirl, the range of movement is very limited on her and that type of joint just looks bad on a female figure. The same hold true with the hips which too me are a bit excessive.

OVERALL:
It?s Batgirl and being only the second female in this series is even more collectible. I naturally like her better than Supergirl, although Supergirl?s costume hides some of the articulation better than Batgirl?s does. The added articulation is great and adds to the play value. This is a nice set and will make a great gift. You?ll notice I have Batman holding a Batarang in the last picture, but none of the Batarangs that come with the Single Carded Batman come in this Two Pack. The Two Pack does not have the Cardboard Display that the Single Carded Figures have.

The spray ops are good, but there is no body wash like Batman. The figure I got was bowlegged with the right leg bent. This may have been from the blister tray and I fixed it after the pictures were taken. This is definitely a Must Have figure for Batman figure collectors and figure collectors in general.

Man, too bad this Target Exclusive 2 pack isn't coming to Canada, because I would most likely want this for Christmas. Here's hoping Mattel decides to release the Batgirl figure as a single in the future. Matter of fact, Mattel can probably re-release this figure in different colour costumes, such as black with yellow gloves and boots with blue cape and cowl, grey with blue gloves, boots, cape and cowl, etc., and for some versions of this figure, they could even put some black paint around the cowl like how some artists have drawn the Barbara Gordon Batgirl in the past(Other examples of the black on the cowl include BTAS series Batgirl in her grey and blue costume, and the 1960's TV Batgirl). Heck, if they did one that was colour like the 1960's TV series Batgirl(Or at least inspired), I'd be all over it. However, before going that route, I personally think they should at least release this figure in this deco 1st as a single, for those who can't go to a Target store to get the 2 pack. Or at the very least, make the 2 packs a mass retail release later on.
Nice review FlaBat, as usual. And I do agree, this 2 pack complimates each other, because both Bats are wearing a grey suit with blue capes and cowls, as well, both utilitiy belts have some silimlarities(Both in the same shade of yellow, with a Bat logo in the middle). I personally think this Batgirl has the right amount of articulation for a female figure, and still looks good. I've seen a few Toy Biz Marvel related female figures where when they have too much articulation, they don't look as good, depending on the scuplt and sometimes the paint job. |

Michael Crawford posted his Batgirl review tonight on his site. It?s interesting to note he had the same problem with the right leg like I did. The way the tray is designed I have to think almost all Batgirl figures will have the same problem.
The good news is it?s easy to fix. I fixed mine using two wood ice cream sticks and a twist tie. I tied the two ice cream sticks to her leg (one inside, one outside) with the twist tie and heated the leg with a hair dryer to warm it and bend it back in position. Hot, but not too hot too long. Then I put her in the refrigerator to cool off and the leg is now straight.
Michael also pointed out that the gloves ARE articulated. I had tried to turn mine, but they would not turn easy and I almost popped the elbow pin. A little effort tonight and they broke free and now turn easy enough. I updated my review to reflect that.

It's weird, Target restocked these after Christmas. They had five of these 2-packs they put out the week after Christmas, but now they're all gone. Several of both Superman 2-packs are still sitting on the rack. I suspect a local scalper may have scooped these up hoping to resell them, since they all disappeared so quickly.

There is a big difference. Bat Signal Batman was only sold in overseas markets. They sometimes show up on eBay, but not often.
This Batgirl was sold in Target stores here in the U.S. and was really hard to find at retail. Oddly enough more did pop up on shelves AFTER Christmas.

Yeah, I'm what you call a "Morron"... I had been waiting to get the Two-Pack, but I lost my patience and bought the single Batman figure. Well a couple weeks later I'm visiting the Action Figure guys shop when I find that he has just gotten his hands on the Two-pack.
Are they ever planning to sell this on it's own?

No, not from what I've read in the trades. The Cassandra Cain Batgirl will be the single, not this one. They might just do a repaint like they did with Supergirl one day though.

I can sympathize with you. I was looking for this one for my daughter (she's only 5 months old, but she'll want it later). I finally just give up and buy the DC Direct Unmasked figure which is about 5 dollars more than the two pack. The next day, I am in Target and fid this two pack. At least my collection has a Batgirl now. The DCD one goes with my stuff better anyway.

Just kiddin'. I know the feeling though. None of that series of figures has shown up here at all and finally, in December, just a few of this 2-pack arrived in Target, so I snatched it up. I'm annoyed at the compromise in Batarangs as featured in the Batman single pack, but I can live with it; Batman couldn't hold them all at once anyhow. Still no Azrael, Robin, or Mr. Freeze singles around here though.
