The Batman ShadowTek: Mattel, 2007. Asst K4026, SKU# K5769
Poor Robin, he never gets to drive the Batmobile However, a new line of The Batman action figures, ShadowTek brings out another new cycle for Robin to ride.
Robin has had cycles before, but not quite like this. Like the other ShadowTek vehicles this one also ?Transforms Instantly? at the press of a button just behind Robin?s butt. When pressed the front fairings raise like wings, the front wheel/tire splits in half and drops a red ring that was hidden within it to the ground and the rear wheel/tire tucks up under the cycle where the engine would be. This makes it some kind of ?hovercycle? I guess. Not a terribly exciting design and mechanically not too sound either.
SPECS:
6 ? inches long, 5? high (top of Robin?s head) 2 ?? wide closed, 5? wide open. Incudes a molded on figure and a red ring to deploy in ?Attack Mode?
PROS:
It?s the new Robin from The Batman. The sprayops were fairly crisp with little slop and overall it?s not bad?
CONS:
? but it?s not good either. Scale was apparently not on the Mattel Checklist as this figure/cycle is way to big for the ShadowTek Batmobile and figures (even the larger ShadowTek Ultra figues). Robin would stand about 6 ?? high and would need at least a 9 or 10? Batman figure to look normal next too. Even then Robin?s head is too big. The mechanism for the fairings is flimsy and a real poor design and one or both sides will pop open easily while handling (without pushing the button). While both wheels roll, (the front does not roll freely) the cycle will not roll across the floor when pushed as it falls over. When you try to roll it by hand the pressure pops the front open.
(Maybe it's not a cycle, maybe it's a Zamboni)
OVERALL:
Nice try, but this needed to go back to the drawing boards. As a toy I can see a kid getting tired of the front popping open all the time. After seeing it in action I would not give one as a gift. It ticked me off just handing it for the photo shoot. As a collector it will not stand in the closed ?Stealth? mode on it?s own and in open ?Attack? mode it just looks stupid. Because of the odd scale it will not fit in with a display of the rest of The Batman figures anyways.
The die-hard Batman collector will get one (look at me), but the casual collector should pass on this and wait for a better Robin cycle.
