Bat Signal Batman
Mattel, 2005. (Deluxe, Wave 6) Asst C3258, SKU# H2855
Zipline Batman, the first new Batman Comic Style figure from Mattel appeared in 2003 launching one of the best lines of Batman figures ever made. However, by 2004 the first three waves of Batman Variant figures were still clogging the pegs at U.S Retailers and the last three waves of this series of figures were all shipped overseas. Some of the best Batman figures and villains like Bane and Scarecrow were in these last three waves of figures. Bat Signal Batman was one of the last of the Deluxe figures produced and one of the best Batman figures ever released.
When Mattel re-launched the comic style figures in 2006 with the new DC SuperHeroes line of figures they reused some of the previous waves of overseas figures. The Batman figure in the first wave was based on Bat Signal Batman. It used Bat Signal Batman?s body, but had a cut joint head rather than the ball joint one, which made him always looking down. It also had a soft rubber cape from the SDCC Batman figures.
Essentially Bat Signal Batman is a cross between Zipline Batman and Attack Armor Batman, another Deluxe Figure from wave 6. It refines the extra articulation of Attack Armor, while keeping the classic Zipline style. It has a ?Retro Traditional? Gray and Black look
SPECS:
The figure stands 6.5 inches tall and has 21 points of articulation (head, shoulders, elbows, gloves, wrists, torso, waist, hips, knees and ankles) and a cloth cape. It also includes three accessories, chest plate armor, zipline launcher and of course the Bat Signal that lights up.
PROS:
It takes the best of two great Batman figures and combines them to take it to a whole new level for a Batman figure. A dead on classic Comic Book look and good example that Mattel can compete with Marvel Legends in the articulation department if they try. Not many Batman figures can actually touch the Utility Belt with their hands, this one can. The ball joint head is a huge improvement and should be standard on all Batman figures and The Bat Signal alone is worth trying to get this figure.
CONS:
None really. The chest plate detracts a bit from the look of the figure and was not needed. I also hampers using the torso joint when it?s on the figure and is a little tricky to hook the tabs under the cowl when you put it on. The Bat Signal does light, but not the whole light, just a round yellow light in the middle of the Bat. It would have been cooler if it lit the whole light, but the yellow light does shine the Bat Signal on a wall at night.
OVERALL:
This is one of the best Batman figures ever released. Added articulation for greater playability makes it a really good value. If you want a Zipline Batman with more articulation then this is your figure. This figure is a must have for any Batman or action figure collector, but you?ll have to work hard to find one. When you do find one (I bought mine from a store in Italy) you will pay $50 to $60 for one.
