Total Control Batman and Ra?s Al Ghul
Batman Begins: Mattel, 2005
Total Control Batman, Asst #: H1340, #H1341
Total Control Ra?s Al Ghul, Asst #: H1340, #H1342
These are ?Fighting Figures?. They are sold separately and both come with a two button trigger attachment that causes them to toss a Disc weapon with their left arm and swing a Nun Chucks weapon with their right arm.
These are large nicely detailed figures. The trigger has two buttons, the left button controls the left arm and the right button the right. In addition to the action, the triggers also activate a sound effect. A grunting (of Batman or Ras?s) and swishing sound of the weapon is different for each trigger. The voice sound on Batman sounds like Kevin Conroy to me and was probably used in a previous Batman role-playing device. (The electronic gloves I think). The voice sound on Ra?s is new to me.
The disc flies off at about a 90 degree angle as seen in the picture above (not easy to get a shot like that with a digital camera, Batman gloves NOT included) so to fire it straight you will need to rotate the waist counter clockwise about 90 degrees. The weapons are specific for each hand, but you could switch them and have the figure toss the Disc overhand with the right arm.
SPECS:
Both figures are 7? Tall, and have only 3 Points Of Articulation (Shoulders, Waist). The left arm rotates around freely, but the right arm and the waist rotate around and lock into position using a ratchet mechanism. Both figures come with a Disc Launcher and Weapon and Nun Chucks Weapon.
PROS:
It?s a neat toy, and kids will enjoy it. Despite the very limited articulation they are nice looking figures.
CONS:
The legs don?t move at all and the attachment sticking out of the butt makes it almost impossible to use the figure alone as a display piece. The legs don?t move, only the arms and waist.
OVERALL:
I?ve never been a huge fan of fighting figures, although some are better than others. This one could have been better if the added triggers to control the legs and make them kick. The Knight Force Ninjas Karate Fighters Batman vs. The Joker set was better as both arms swung and the one leg could be used to kick and they popped of the base when you hit a button on the figures chest.
There are two variations of the figures on the market. There are ones with gold weapons and triggers and ones with silver weapons (like the box back) and triggers. The other version of Batman is said to have a gold utility belt and better painted eyes. The proliferation of slightly different versions of these and other Batman Begins figures makes me wonder about Mattel?s Quality Control.
These are OK for a kids toy especially kids with siblings, but I think most collectors will probably pass on these.
