Attack Armor Batman
Batman: Mattel, 2005. Assortment C3258, # 2854

Attack Armor Batman is one of the best Batman action figures ever released. Sadly, it never saw release here in the United States. This was a Deluxe figure from Wave 6, the last Wave of the original Mattel Comic Style Batman figures.

Attack Armor Batman is proof that Mattel could make a Marvel Legends style figure if they wanted to. This is a fabulous figure and one that you can?t help but all ways pickup bend into all sorts of poses.

SPECS:
The figure stands 6.5 inches tall and has 24 points of articulation, twice that of Zipline Batman (head, shoulders, biceps, elbows, gloves, torso, waist, hips, knees and ankles) and a long (6 ??) cloth cape, the longest I?ve seen on a Batman figure. It comes with a Mega Batarang and Shield with spring loaded ?Bat Wings? and a firing projectile.

PROS:
A dead on classic Comic Book look and articulation that is close to Marvel Legends. Ball Joints in the shoulders and hips and Cut Joints at biceps and knees add a whole new range of motion and poseability over all previous Batman figures.

CONS:
My only gripe is that the head is a Cut Joint, not a Ball Joint and that it is too small compared to the rest of the figure. See the comparison photo with Zipline Batman below to see what I mean.

OVERALL:
This is one of the best Batman figures ever released. The articulation makes for outstanding playability and a really good value, assuming you would give this to a kid to play with. The only draw back is that it was only released overseas and is really a collector figure. The first three waves of Comic Style figures languished on the pegs in the U.S. and Mattel was forced to look else where to sell the last of the line. Waves 4, 5 and 6 all were sent overseas. I got mine from an eBay Seller in the Philippines. Not easy to find and not cheap if you find it, but worth the hunt and worth the money. This figure is a must have for any Batman or action figure collector.

The new DC Superheroes line takes up where Wave 6 of the comic line left off. The Batman figure in this new line is a repainted and slightly modified Batsignal Batman from Wave 6 with the cape from the SDCC ?Unmasking? Batman figure from 2005. While it is more articulated than most, it does not have the cloth cape or ball jointed head that the original Batsignal Batman did. Perhaps we will see a re-release of Attack Armor Batman in this new line of figures in the future.

Very nice photos and review, as usual. I love the Zipline/Attack Armor comparison.
This figure is making me unsure whether I should buy the new DC Super Heroes Batman of Series 1. The biggest problem I see with this one as you stated, is the tiny head. Attack Armor Batman definitely has the Michael Turner look more than any other figure out there, whether or not people like that particular style.
Compared with Zipline, he's pretty muscle-bound and almost a little exaggerated, reminds me of SOTA's Street Fighter line. And as much as I hate to say, some of the articulation is a bit distracting, like the cut thighs and abdomen/waist ball joint. Both figures have a few values over one another.
I might just wait it out a little and see if Attack Armor's value goes down. I was thinking the new DC line was almost identical to these at first, but obviously not. A lot of people are saying that these Australian versions are a bit better in quality and that the new ones are missing some accessories, and made from cheaper plastic. And it's so fun to pay $40 for a plastic, 6" tall kid's toy isn't it?

Thanks for the review.
I'll definitely pass on this one, though; I'm with those that think the extra articulation hurts the sculpt. It's one of the reasons why I almost never get ML figures, even to kitbash into better characters. |

Here?s another shot that dramatically shows off the articulation advantage that Attack Armor Batman has over Zipline Batman.

Now, I don?t like some of the Marvel Legends figures either because they are a little over articulated, but Attack Armor Batman has just enough if you ask me.
I now have a DC Superheroes Batman, but did not have it when these photos were taken, I?ll post a full review of it and more comparison pictures soon.
I paid $47.79 with Shipping for my Attack Armor Batman from an eBay Seller in the Philippines.
