Batman
Justice League (Alex Ross) Series 2, DC Direct, 2006

Alex Ross is arguably one of the most gifted artists ever to work with Superheroes. He brings a lifelike feeling to the drawings and paintings he creates that few people can. Direct?s Justice League brings his art to life for one great action figure series.

Impressive detail, especially in the eyes and cowl make this incarnation of Batman rise above the rest. That and it?s physically just a bit taller than DC Direct?s previous Batman figures.

SPECS:

The figure stands 7 1/4 inches tall and has 9 points of articulation (head, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees) comes with a folding Batarang and a large display base.

PROS:

It?s one of the nicest Batman figures ever released. It?s not too over stylized with ?super abs?, but it has enough detail to look real. There is even a storage pouch on the back of the Utility Belt for the Batarang.

CONS:

I don?t see any really. The head could have used the ball joint that the Hush Series 1 Batman had, articulation for the gloves too. That however is just being picky, the figure really does not need anything else.

(l-r: Hush Batman, Superman/Batman Batman, Justice League (Alex Ross) Batman)

OVERALL:

When two great artists team up, something great usually comes of it. Such is the case with this exceptional line of figures. DC Direct has done a superb job of bringing the Ross style Batman to a three dimensional form.

I have the majority of Series 1 and 2. Sadly, they're all still boxed. This Justice League collection really does Ross's art justice. I find myself trying to collect pretty much all of these figures. They have such an ultimate look.

I do have a bit of mixed feelings though. While I like the minimal articulation, as it allows the sculpt (of most importance in this case) to look a little better, and therefore better interpret Ross's style, it would also be really cool to have a super-articulated version of this figure with a cloth cape, to really recreate all those awsome stances from Batman: War on Crime.

Either way, I cannot wait for Series 3, to get Hal Jordon and any other upcoming JLA members (including, yes, Plastic Man). Originally I wanted to try and recreate my "Secret Origins" poster, but I've obtained a lot of the villains from this collection really cheap on eBay too, so I wanna do a Good Vs. Evil set-up. Smile

So far I only have Batman and Superman from Series 1. Although I might get a few more one day, like Flash or maybe Black Canary. A nice satin cloth cape for this Batman would be cool too.

The only problem I have with this figure is the head, I don't really know why, it just doesn't look too good to me.

Well, if I were to make any complaints about the head, it would probably be that the iris color is too light, almost orange, rather than brown. And the flesh paint nearly comes onto the mask above the nose. But those are small observations that really aren't big complaints.

The Iris of the eye looks more Gold to me than anything else. I don't see any flesh paint above the nose, maybe it was a flash glare or something else.

Oh, I'm referring to my own figure still in the box. Taking another look, it's more of a light brown/dark orange. Really not that bad. There is a bit of flesh paint that ran onto the mask above the nose, but very little.

This is the only one that I bought from this wave. I've got mine displayed next to the Superman on their stands. You get a really nice statue effect with that . The next one that I want is the Wonder Woman so that I have the DC trinity. THe detail on the Batman is the coolest part. I just noticed the other day that there are seams on the boots. That is so cool.
