Los Angeles Times talked to Warner Bros. Pictures President Alan Horn about the performance of Superman Returns and echoed director Bryan Singer's comments from Comic-Con that they are hoping for a sequel in 2009:
Horn expects "Superman Returns" to eventually gross about $400 million worldwide, more than last year's hit "Batman Begins." Nonetheless, "Superman" fell at least $100 million short of his expectations.
"I thought it was a very successful movie, but I think it should have done $500 million worldwide," Horn said. "We should have had perhaps a little more action to satisfy the young male crowd."
Still, he's betting Warner has firmly reestablished the "Superman" franchise and is planning another installment for summer 2009.

Did you say that because...
a) that was the line at the end of Star Trek III, and Singer is a trekkie
b) what the tageline to Superman II was
c) what Wonder Woman says at the end of JLU "Destroyer"

This is great to hear. You wouldn't believe what lengths some of the jerks who didn't like Superman Returns went to make sure there wouldn't be a sequel. There was this one guy who sent in a freakin' 12-page report to Alan Horn titled 'Why it is not profitable for Warner Bros. to make a Superman Returns Sequel'. It's a sick world.
