IESB.net has potentially good news for us Superman fans:
A few calls later, other studio insiders confirmed that the deal was finalized last week and the team that brought Superman Returns to theaters earlier this year will return for the sequel.
We have been told that a couple of things are for certain. For one, the sequel will have a slightly smaller budget. Returns budget was approximately $208 million dollars with P&A (prints and ads) of about $50 million putting it at around $260. The sequel is expected to be around $140-175 million plus marketing.
Superman Sequel is Up Up and Away!
Written by Stephanie Sanchez
Wednesday, 25 October 2006 With Superman Returns breaking $200 Million domestically and a worldwide gross of over $390 million, Warner Bros. is moving forward with the sequel.
Weeks before the DVD has it?s grandiose release, the IESB has learned that Bryan Singer has finalized a deal to move forward with the sequel this past weekend and the studio is planning to start production sometime next fall, possibly next September. When the IESB contacted a studio rep for comments we got this response - Warner Bros. does not comment on projects that are in development.
Second, more action, tons more action is expected this time around. The studio was quite happy with the way Supes was reintroduced to the world and next time around expect to see him in full action battle mode. We?ve been told that Superman will have the battle of his life in the sequel and audiences can expect one of the ultimate baddies in the D.C. universe to come to Metropolis to pick a fight with the Man of Steel.
Stay tuned to the IESB for the latest Superman news.

Bryan Singer has inked a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to direct and produce a sequel to "Superman Returns," with Legendary Pictures expected to co-finance.
Pic is tentatively intended for release in summer 2009, although the studio stressed that there's not even a script or budget yet.
Sequel is apparently at the very beginning of the development process and, as with any other project, there are any number of factors that must be addressed before it is greenlit.
Pact with Singer signals that Warners isn't ready to walk away from the iconic franchise -- or Singer --even though "Superman Returns," while grossing more than $390 million worldwide, wasn't the performer studio had hoped for.
Warners and Legendary say they will still turn a profit from "Superman Returns," with Singer inking his deal just as the film crossed $200 million at the domestic box office.
Insiders say Warners and Legendary are sure to insist that the sequel's production budget comes in under $200 million.
"Superman Returns" fell under endless scrutiny for its production budget, which the studio puts at $209 million after tax rebates and incentives. The number is much higher when factoring in more than $40 million in development costs -- "Superman Returns" was in the works for years --even though those costs were previously absorbed.
Critically, "Superman Returns" was disparaged for lacking in action. Singer has said he would address this concern in the follow-up.
In terms of casting, Warners has an option on "Superman Returns" star Brandon Routh.
Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris penned the script for "Superman Returns" based on a story they created with Singer. It's not clear whether Dougherty and Harris will return for the sequel.
Legendary's involvement is key for the studio. Under the co-financing and co-production deal between the two, Legendary puts up half the money for films on which it's partnering.
Legendary is Warners' partner on the revived "Batman" franchise as well.
So its gonna happen.

hating on kryptonians? lol.
i used to feel the same way, but i started liking him more and more after smallville, JLU, legion, and superman: doomsday. he's more of the admirable hero, than the relatable hero.
and for whatever reason, i never knew that it was the yellow sun that gave him powers. i find that very interesting. it's funny that i never knew even though i saw STAS religiously as a kid.

wow, i hate superman well have in the past and I got the DVD from a friend and i liked SR. I mean for a superman movie it was great. What made it for me was the actor playing superman. I thought that was a great choice. I was sick of all the muscle bound guys who cant act. |
