From Variety

Warner Bros. is moving aggressively ahead with the bigscreen adaptation of DC Comics' "Justice League of America," with George Miller aboard to direct.

Project, which is in the initial phases of casting, is a pre-strike priority for the studio, which needs a superhero tentpole for 2009.

Still, making all the pieces fit has been complicated by overlapping superhero projects in the pipeline, since "Justice League" features a pantheon of superheroes including Superman and Batman.

Batman and Superman are active properties for the studio, though the next installment in the "Superman" franchise has taken a backseat to "Justice League" in part because Warners is so keen on the "Justice League" script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.

Beyond the Caped Crusader and Man of Steel, "Justice League" will likely feature Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman. The Green Lantern is also featured in the comicbook.

Several sources close to the project said that Christian Bale, star of the revived "Batman" film franchise, and Brandon Routh, star of Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns," would probably not appear in the movie.

Helmer Christopher Nolan, current steward of the "Batman" franchise for the studio, would prefer that Warners delay "Justice League" until after he finishes "Batman" projects in development; Bale has also let his uneasiness about "Justice League" be known.

To work around these issues, the studio explored making "Justice League" as an animated film or with motion capture, but all indications are that the pic will be an f/x-driven live-actioner.

Project is so complicated -- and casting-dependent -- that even those deeply involved are holding their breath until production begins.

"They're working very hard to get it to happen," said one party close to the project. "But there are so many characters, it's complicated."

It was for this very reason that many believed Warners would move ahead first with a follow-up to Singer's "Superman Returns." Singer, however, is busy with Tom Cruise starrer "Valkyrie."

Miller has a warm relationship with Warners. He last helmed "Happy Feet," which generated $379 million in worldwide box office for the studio.

This project could give the studio a launching pad for future Wonder Woman and the Flash pics. The studio has been developing bigscreen adaptations of both DC properties.

Yo uknow.. maybe it's being rushed, but really.. why does it take 2 years to film a good movie? It doesn't. If they were to start filming in lets say March of next year, thats more than enough time to film, produce and get it out by summer of 09.

Good script, getting the right people on board, good cast- it takes time, i rather wait 2 years for the JL movie and have a good solid film then having a rushed 1 year project. And s ofar, even if they are rumours, the choices for batman and superman arent very good. Gosling is nothing like batman, hes a good actor and all but not for batman, maybe barry allen.

Not to mention that this movie is supposed to be CGI intensive... Even if it's not mo-cap there is going to be ton of CGI, and good CGI takes a lot of time to make; the way they're rushing it we're going to get some seriously lack-luster visual effects with this pic.

from what i can gather about the "justice league" movie is that they have not signed tom welling as superman due to his commitment to smallville which is a bit of a bummer - all things considering it may have been easier to make an all animated version like tmnt because whoever they get to do the major roles of this film will not measure up to the current incarnations of the most famous of them all - batman and superman. - just my opinion

Transformers was done within a year.

Transformers was filmed in a year, but if you look it up you'll find out they started the visual effects in early 2005, which means they spent two years working on the CGI. Like I said, good CGI takes time.

Ok.. so, it's late 2007, so in just less than two years you're telling me, that Good CGI can't be done?

From SHH:

http://www.superherohype.com/news/transformersnews.php?id=3703

Preproduction might have started, just as they are doing with JL now.

And Transformers has more CGI than I'm sure JL will have. So, a little over a year and a half is more than enough time to make a great movie. I'm not saying they will make it great. I'm saying they can.

i didnt think Transformers was a great movie ,but the CGI sure was and as raz said, they started the CGI process in early 05, so there you go, obviously JL isnt gonna have as much CG but id like them to make the CG as best as humanly possible

I think it would be cool if Chris Nolan and Bryan Singer teamed up and made a Batman/Superman movie just to show WB what a huge mistake JL will be.

It wasn't early in 05, it was fall of 05. Around the same time as now. And while you don't think it was all great, the Box Office does: Worldwide: $692,991,316

So, it's really a matter of opinion. And honestly, while WB might be on the fast track.. that doesn't mean we'll get it by then..

Here is the first calling news for JLA. This doesn't mean she is a contender nor in the running, but she has tested and auditioned for the role.

Victoria Hill has auditioned for Wonder Woman.

This is her:

She is known for other works such as: she was in 2 episodes of Xena, MacBeth, and the upcoming December BOys.

Her IMDB profile can be found here:

i think i kinda like her, though shes kinda skinny, flat and a lil short, but from what i hear, shes a good actress, id prefer her as talia though
theres other people id rather see as WW(though i know some are too old and of course will never happen)
Monica Bellucci(shes kinda my IDEAL wonder woman, but too old now)
Jennifer Connelly(Also a little old but a great actress too)
Charisma Carpenter(might not be the best choice but i still kinda like her, but shes also too old now)

For lesser known and more in the age range they are looking for

Alana De La Garza(Might recognize her if you watch CSI:Miami and was on one episode of smallville as zods first hand female servent, she isnt the best actress but its better then some names ive seen mentioned)
Taylor Cole(Might recognize her from supernatural, though she was only in one episode, many people liked her and wanted her to be in more episodes, she has a wonder woman look to her as well, and is a little younger)
And my fave for a lesser known
Monica Dean(I havent seen her act much, but from what ive seen, she isnt bad, and i think she has a very good wonder woman look to her)

New news, and this time it is actually the first piece of casting.

Jessica Biel is in talks to play Wonder Woman in Warner Bros.' all-star superhero film Justice League of America, reports Variety.

Biel is filming the indie drama Powder Blue, which wraps in October, opposite Forest Whitaker. She will then segue to A Woman of No Importance, based on the play by Oscar Wilde. That leaves room on the actress' schedule for "Justice League," which Warner is fast-tracking as a project before any potential strikes. However, the film's likelihood hinges on the studio's ability to assemble a cast of superheroes in a small window of time.

The trade says the studio declined comment, saying that it prefers to announce an entire cast rather than piecemeal deals.

Biel might get WW... Reynolds is rumoured for Flash... Anyone else thinking Snipes as Aquaman for a Blade Trinity reunion? wink
