Not entirely nuts about Reynolds as Hal. But I'm really, REALLY excited about Mark Strong playing Sinestro. He's one of my favorite DC villains and I just know Strong is going to kick butt as him.

For those of you who don't know, /Film is reporting that the Green Lantern costume will be almost entirely CGI. According to the site, several legitimate sources say star Ryan Reynold will be shooting all his scenes in a grey Motion Capture suit over which a CGI Green Lantern costume will be added in post.
The claim has already caused a bit of a stir on the internet, but I for one am actually for it. It's really hard to find a fabric that can match the comic book AND be practical. The traditional spandex and other skin tight fabrics don't look as good in real life and other common choices like rubber, leather, or vinyl inhibit motion too much. With this method, they can give him a costume that looks really good on film, but gives him a full range of motion like in the comic books.

I've seen sketches of Hal Jordan by Ivan Reis and he looks exactly like Ryan Reynolds. I'm very excited about watching this movie. I'm going to hold judgement on the CGI uniform. At first I was a little unsure but since Iron Man was mostly CGI, it could be something interesting. Again, I'll have to see some footage before forming an opinion.

MTV Splash Page has and image of Ryan Reynolds on set in the Motion Capture suit I mentioned earlier.
Also, a few days ago Superhero Hype posted a set photo of Peter Sarsgaard in make-up to play villain Hector Hammond.
Just thought I'd post this stuff for y'all. I sure hope this movie turns out good.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks Hector Hammond looks like Freakshow from Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle? That's kind of worrying.

Yesterday, EW revealed it's upcoming cover featuring the first image of Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern.
Ryan Reynolds "in costume"
Here's a clip from EWs article:
Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, a cocky test pilot who becomes a ring-wearing intergalactic superhero in this massive sci-fi epic from director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale). Though Reynolds has prior experience in the superhero realm from his role as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, playing Green Lantern involved some major challenges, like getting hurled through the air on a wire at up to 60 feet per second to create the illusion of flight. “The first time you do it, you’re seriously considering an adult diaper,” Reynolds says. Still, he couldn’t resist the chance to play the beloved DC Comics hero, whose power ring can conjure virtually anything he can dream up. “Will and imagination are his superpowers,” Reynolds says. “We need a circus of Timothy Learys to think of things Hal would invent with his ring.”
In my opinion. The suit is pretty "meh." Perhaps it's just the shading of the image, but it looks like the entire suit is green. Way too little contrast for my tastes. But I will hold my judgement a little until we can get a properly lit shot of the suit.
But for now, I think my expectations for this film are slowly dropping.

The whole image is slightly tinted green.

I'm a little dissapointed with the suit. Hope it's a little more detailed than just the black and green lines. I really don't like the mask though. It looks so... Fake...

They still have a year to clean up the CGI and stuff. The mask probably won't look like that in the final version.

The mask will look better in motion. They're trying to make it look like it's almost part of his face, like an organic mask that looks like it's fused to his face.
In a front facing photo, it looks like they just superimposed a mask onto his face without taking into account that the mask should leave a slight shadow on his skin. But the truth is the mask is to thin to even leave a shadow. It will look a lot better when we see it from more flattering angles and in motion.
And kpangilinan is right about the CGI. A movie NEVER has final CGI in it a year before release. Think about The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man, both of those films had completely different versions of the effects shots on the trailers than they had in the actual film. That's because visual effects aren't complete until about the last two months of production (as in, two months before the release of the film.) In Green Lanterns case, that would be April 2011. So they will definitely tweak GL's CGI costume a lot before the release of the film.

Glad to hear that about the CGI. I believe you but where did you learn that from?

The CGI thing? Behind the scenes featurettes, interviews with film makers, things like that.
If your refering to the mask, in an interview someone from the film (I think it was the director) mentioned that they are trying to make the suit look like an extention of Hal's will. Looking at the picture, they are obviously trying to make the mask look like it's almost part of his face. That's why it looks kind of "fake." Because it's supposed to be part of him, and so thin that it is barely seperated from his skin.
