PLOT:
Shape-shifting villain Clayface turns himself in, promising to give up his criminal ways and hoping to earn a second chance for his alter ego, Ethan Bennett. But when a new Clayface takes to the streets of Gotham, Ethan wants to prove his worth as a hero by helping take down this threat. Having been burned in the past by a seemingly reformed Ethan, Batman isn?t sure his friend can still be trusted.
REVIEW:
I can remember when The Batman started airing that people didn't know what to make of it. Some liked it and others didn't. It was like that for a while and while viewers were overall questioning the show, the two part season finale for season one aired and everyone's mind changed. It was because the show had tragedy with the introduction of its own Clayface. The comparsion between the Ethan Benett Clayface and the Matt Hagen version of BTAS had tragedy as its final result and people liked this Clayface. With Season Four; we learned about a second Clayface, and we wanted to know how the two Clayfaces would meet.
As this episode starts, Ethan is still on revenge against Joker. But when Batman & Robin arrive, he reveals his intention to turn himself in. For Batman, Ethan is gone so he doesn't believe Ethan from this. But as Bruce Wayne, he has a cure being made for him, which Ethan is thinking not having. He then escapes because of the new Clayface to confront him, because he truly believes he is and will always be a cop.
The new Clayface here is actor Basil Karlo. In the comics, he was the first Clayface that appeared in Detective #40. Not beign able to get a part as a bad actor, he steals the stuff that made Ethan Clayface and drinks it. (He even does the T-1000 through the cell scene from Terminator 2). When he goes as far as hospitalizing the talent agency, he gets the media attention he has always wanted. He then gets obsessed of doing the crimes and filming his actions as if it was a movie.
Overall, this episode switched back to a serious one. The battle between the two Clayfaces on the bridge (had the feeling of T-1000 from T2 again during climax fight), the attempt of redemption of Ethan, we even see Robin displaying from classic moments his boy wonder role. From the questions he had for Batman on the crimes to the "Oh Gosh" line. Glad he didn't do the "Holy (something) Batman" otherwise that would've had the classic campy feel.
RATING: 8/10

I loved this episode! It went right back to the season opener, the tone was set again! Seeing Ethan again was great and the new Clay Face was so cool! It was also nice to see a cameo from Joker. (Can't wait for Two of a Kind)
Overall a Great Episode!!

This episode did not come together properly for some reason.
It was nice seeing Ethan again...he wants to help...he catches Joker and turns himself in. Good start. Then, a nobody actor with very little personality, sneeks effortlessly into a Wayne Industries high security lab (way too easy) and drinks Clayface potion.
This is where the show goes awry.
Ethan escapes to help. Good action scenes with the two Clayfaces fighting...Batman Robin (without Batgirl...thankyou) appears and enters the fray. The clayface cure is shot into both men...they appear to be cured, but we know Karlo was not. I imagine Ethan is still Clayface as well.
Karlo is just a common dirtbag with no character at all. I do not care for him...villian or good guy, he did not come off well to me.
Ethan, the fight scenes and no Batgirl were the only good things about this eppy.
6.8/10 - not quite a 7

I'm sorry, but this is the first season four episode I've seen; been having trouble getting up on saturdays.
All in all; The new Clayface sucks, Batman was a hipocratic bastard, Robin made to many one liners. On the other hand, the characters are looking a bit taller this season, and Ethan is a good character.
My least favorite part of the episode is Batman's hipocracy. The writers really screwed up on that... He's willing to work with and risk the lives of teenagers he dosen't even know, but he is entirely unwilling to work with Ethan because he has super-powers; he's okay with having a child help him fight villians, but his best friend is completely untrustworthy.
And the speech sucks, "Good guys don't break out of Arkham"; I can't count how many times Batman, or any other superhero, has broken out of prison to save lives. I guess the writers are trying to put a moral in the story so the little kiddies will grow up nice and law-abideing; "If you're in prison and you're the only one capable of saving the lives of countless men, women and children; for Gods sake just let everybody die, because it's what the law tells you to do!"
Also... the Joker is still less cool than any other preformance before it. And for some reason kids shows insist that gigantic business and government buildings have the security of a day-care center.
Never start with the head; the victim gets all fuzzy!

I thought its was OK, just OK. I would have liked to see Matt Hagen come back as Clayface. This Basil Karlo is really horrible. There was nothing remotely redeeming about him.
I would have liked to see Batman trust Ethan/Clayface a bit more and let him help take down the other new Clayface. Ethan decides to do this on his own and still Batman does not trust him after he does it.
The good thing is that both Ethan and Basil shared the antidote and we know Basil was not cured, so maybe Ethan was not either and we?ll see Ethan back as Clayface in Season 5 or maybe a direct to video movie. Maybe this is the start of a new Mudpack.
They need to tone down this Robin a bit. Grayson was not that hyper and his one-liners were subtler. At least they didn?t have him say ?Holy? that would have been the end of it for me. For a kid who lost his parents he?s just a little too glib sometimes.

I was hoping Yin to appear because the episode was about Benett.
Umm, I'm sorry for those who didn't want to hear this but new episodes to TB (and LoSH) will resume on the beginning of November. This is going by the schedule at toonzone.net

The new Clayface was kind of annoying. I like Ethan better. This wasn't one of my favorite episodes.

This was one of the few episodes i was really looking forward to this season, and while it wasnt bad or even avarage it still didnt exceed my expectations like i hoped. it was still really good and better than last week's
is anyone surprised about the scene where Basil turned into a wolve and almost killed those people? i thot it was pretty violent for the batman, like something from the tim universe
i'm kinda glad they didnt have basil loose his powers at the end, maybe we'll see him again, altho i didnt really like him
it was cool seeing ethan again but im not sure how i feel about him being human again. it also made me want to see yiin again really bad! |

I agree with a lot of the negative comments said. I thought the plot wasn't bad, yet it wasn't executed all that well. I couldn't help but think of how an action figure of the new Clayface might look, but as far as the show goes, the character himself was pretty bland. And having him just sneak right into Wayne Tech and guzzle down the Clayface chemical was a little strange. The most redeeming aspect was probably the relationship between Batman/Wayne and Ethen, which wasn't perfect either. Not a horrible episode but not great either.

Considering the Ethan/Clayface storyline is one of the best of the show, this episode dissapointed a little bit.
I liked that they redeemed Ethan and they did a little with whether or not they could trust him. Good stuff.
But they could've really done more. This could've been a stand out episode considering the past episodes that built up to it, but overall it was just average.
And no Yin, that makes me sad, the one chance for her to return for a good reason and they don't use it.

Dang...I read Matsuda's comments about the cameo...but I missed it completely. I'll have to go back and watch it again.
