PLOT:
When notorious crime boss Black Mask is captured, his organization works to break him of out jail. But when Batman is sidelined, Batgirl and Robin must prove they can be heroes on their own and stop Black Mask.
REVIEW:
Black Mask is one of those important Batman villians that that general public doesn't know about. The only people who know about him is us fans. Black Mask is important because not only does he and his family have a connection to the Wayne Family, but he caused great impact on Batman's life, even when Infinite Crisis was on the horizon to begin. He started the false face society and targeted Wayne Enterprises, led a cult during No Man's Land, and caused a a gang war in War Games. But while he tried to get rid of Batman, he had troubles with Catwoman which led to his death. Yes, Black Mask is one of those great characters yet he has not been in any other media. He was planned for BTAS, but he wasn't in the show though he did appear on the show's comic with other villians which also never appeared (which half ended up appearing on JL/JLU). But that has changed with TB, here is Black Mask's first animated appearence, let's see how it goes:
Black Mask here is like the comics: a mob boss who acts like a terrorist who he does his demands when he threatens, and then plots to detroy the city (don't worry, its not in a corny way). I was glad they didn't change him to make him colorful like the other villians like Joker or Penguin, while people would say his organization was. His organization was like a cult moreson than his mob. I also liked how there was no way to remove his mask (well I believe Black Mask can do that a special trick way) and no way to ID from his fingerprints. The reason why is because I think if they did wanna make the connection between Black Mask and the Wayne family, it would be a shocker for Batman to see this criminal hits close to home.
Batman basically gets captured in this episode, but it doesn't mean we don't get any good Batman moments. When he fights Black Mask's organization, the blue lighnting (and with help of his new chin) it created his true Dark Knight look. Then when he is captured, the anger he has to plummet the man holding his belt, all this made me think of BTAS.
When they first showed up to take care of Black Mask, there was no arguing at all between them. When they chase the van carrying Black Mask, they both mock Batman when they talk about the grunt jobs he's been giving them, that was kinda cute. And when Robin and Batgirl talk about the villians in the WANTED posters, they aren't rivals at all. These two also proved themselves when Black Mask escaped and put him back into his cell, and when they had to take care of Black Mask's men, they're experienced enough to handle their own without Batman. Plus, they do care about each other when they talked like if each of them ever got scared when the enemy was closing in.
Overall, this episode was. It was great to see Gordon again, although he appeared a bit in the previous episode, he finally saw him as a supporting character this season. This episode did a grert job at Black Mask, in no way was I offened in any change (if any). He was a villian and showed that even when he "replaced" his right hand man for not getting him out in time because of the little duo. But this episode was an important one for Robin & Batgirl. We all know what they will become both in their hero roles and together, relationship-wise, and this episode gave the first steps toward that instead of just having them arguing and being rivals. This episode was a very good one
RATING: 8.5/10
You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.

And I'm the surgeon.

It was a good show. One of the best parts was making Batgirl and Robin work more together as part of team. They got the chance to really shine on their own while Batman was captured.
It?s nice to see more of the obscure characters from Batman?s Rogues Gallery. I think there has only been one Black Mask action figure (by DC Direct), so maybe the new Shadow Tek line will include him as well.
Nice touch with the Utility Belt. Having speech recognition built into it is a first I think.

I am sorry I missed the show, but I was working this morning. However, I would have been interested in Black Mask, since he factors heavily in the Catwoman comic.
Black Mask didnt say much but he was still creepy and his men were definatelly a threat. it was cool to see black mask "kill" number 1 even if it was expected.
However, the episode goes to robin and batgirl. they worked so well together and their interaction was REALLY REALLy good, some of the best of the show.

the best of the ep for me was definetely the homage given to the 89' batman film......the part in which black mask kills number one for not expecting the robin batgirl duo, just like the joker kills his number one in the same manner.....it was great to also see the robin character talk about being scared sometimes.....the first glimpse of a realistic emotion given to an animated character, that was great. this show has been so-so overall but that may be unfair since it must compete with the first Batman animated series which was classic.
