THE JOINING PART 1
PLOT:
John Jones, a new detective in Gotham, hints that he may know Batman’s secret. Batman must uncover this mysterious figure’s true identity and whether he is a friend or a foe. The answers prove shocking.
REVIEW:
When season four was announced at comic con, it was stated to be the "fan friendly" season. While many were wondering what to expect, we weren't expecting another DC Superhero to appear in the show this season. All of the internet kept wondering who was going to meet with The Batman, and then at comic '06 it was revealed: Martian Manhunter. As fans geared up for his appearence, we found out the plotline of the two part season finale and before the airing, screenshots of how he was going to look. Was the hype worth it? Let's see.
The episode begins in the factory owed by Wayne, where Bruce, Dick, and Lucuius Fox (making his first appearence and knows Bruce is Batman). As they leave, Bruce tells Dick that Fox is the only one who knows, and the last. Stating he does not want many others to know about his secret life. Then Fox is attacked, by someone looking just like him. Robin & Batgirl scope out some criminals, but get taken down until Batman comes in. But still escapes, which enrages Batman. There, as the police arrive, he meets Detective John Jones. He mentions that he should return to "his company" and then leaves. Bruce checks in with "Lucuius" about whats inside the box which wasn't suppose to be of existence. Bruce checks out Jones' profile and his sidekicks find out its a hovering device inside the box (Robin uses it like a hoverboard from Back to the Future). Batman checks out Jones' place and sees him morphing, in which Jones reveals his martian appearence to him. Batman tries to arrest to arrest him, but that leads both to fight that reaches from the inside to outside his apartment. And then after they fight in the skies, it ends with a "ceasefire" and they have coffee. This is where he reveals he is here to stop an invasion that will destroy the world...
So this episode introduces us to the TB version of Martian Manhunter. Last seen in JL/JLU, the first big difference between the previous animated appearence and now is that in this version, he has a secret identity of Detective John Jones. I always liked the secret identity idea for him, and I thought Timm & co. could've used it for more stories. Also, Batman here thinks MM is the one behind whats going on in his company, so thats why they fight. Unlike JL, where it was Superman who said to him before they met him that he was a good guy. And I don't know if MM already knew Batman was Bruce in JL but he knew here. One of things I wanted to point out was that Bruce states he study certain things that were uncommon such as aliens. Which explains how Bruce knows MM was a martian to begin with. But the idea I had was, if he studied alien possibilities, would that mean he only studied it because of other things that are alien in connection or origin? Like people such as....Superman or Green Lantern?
Lucuius Fox also makes his first appearence in his TB vesrion. Unlike the other versions, he DOES know Bruce is Batman and helps him with his "gadgets". It has been thought that he does know Bruce is Batman in comics and in the film Batman Begins, just like Gordon. But it has not been revealed even today if thats true.
Overall, this episode which again is a part one to a two parter was nicely done. I liked the bit sof comedy such with Batgirl & Robin debating if Alfred was a robot too, but I love the interaction between Bruce Wayne/Batman & John Jones/Martian Manhunter. The episode ends with a cliffhanger that we won't want to miss the conclusion. And...the more superheroes. 
RATING: 8/10

more like 10/10. that episode was perfect. i liked everything in it. martian manhunter had a perfect voice, batman was questioning batgirl's and robin's usefulness, and batgirl and robin are getting closer. i hope one day they'll dedicate an episode for just those two.

Very interesting episode! I wonder if we'll see more of the DC Universe characters in the next episode.

I thought The Episode was Terrific, I really liked The Scene where Dick finds out that Lucuius Fox knows who Batman is, I also liked The Scene where Batman meets Martain Manhunter, I can't wait to see The Other Heros show up, that is going to be great, I can't wait to see Next Weeks Episode, it is going to be The Best Episode yet. |

Jonz chin looks like an old cowboy boot though lol...I like the alien accent better in JL though...other than that its a great story and I`m so happy that they did this!!! And batgyrl and robin thinking about kicking alfreds head off was funny lol!!!

While it was an OK story, I can live without Martian Manhunter. I’m not being a MM hater mind you, just that I think The Batman does not need other DC characters other than Batman ones in it is all. I would much rather see Robin and Batgirl develop in conjunction with The Batman than see MM or The Flash or Green Lantern show up in Gotham.
