"The Batman" welcomes another member of The Justice League to Gotham with an episode entitled "Vertigo" on Saturday, October 6 at 11:30 a.m. ET/PT as part of the Kids' WB! lineup on The CW Network. In the episode, Green Arrow teams up with Batman when Vertigo, a villain who can affect people's sense of balance, arrives in Gotham with a diabolical plan. Chris Hardwick (MTV¹s "Singled Out") and Greg Ellis ("Beowulf," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End") provide the voices of Green Arrow and Vertigo, respectively.

The Green Arrow

Like most of Gotham, Robin is taken ill when Vertigo unleashes his unbalancing force.

Caught off-balance by Vertigo's powers, Batman, Green Arrow and Robin are hurled into a Gotham waterway -- providing an improvised getaway, but also putting them in danger within the raging current.

THE BATMAN
503 - VERTIGO
PLOT:
Green Arrow teams up with Batman when Vertigo, a villain who can affect people's sense of balance, arrives in Gotham with a diabolical plan.
REVIEW:
I enjoyed both parts that made up The Batman/Superman Story. Just like the two part premiere of Legion of Superheroes, it set up this season to be a great season with great shows to watch. The animation was top notch, the characters were very good, and even though I hate that question on a Batman vs. Superman fight, the fight was the previous episode’s highlight. My favorite scene was the ending with Superman joining the Justice League. Now, next on the Batman team-up list is Green Arrow. Originally, it was thought to be Flash but didn’t turn out to be the case. Maybe there was a reason for Green Arrow, which I’ll explain later, but right now here is Vertigo:
Green Arrow breaks in Wayne Labs. Bruce and his date see the cops and follow them, where Green Arrow escapes from the cops and comes face to face with Bruce, telling him he is making kids sick. Bruce and Dick check out the sick kids, who lived around the Wayne Labs location. He sees Oliver Queen giving his money to help, and goes to check out the water supply when Green Arrow arrives and Robin starts to feel sick. Green Arrow and Batman start to feel dizzy when enemies arrive of Count Vertigo, causing the shaking in the heroes’ brains. Green Arrow and Batman save Robin from the water trail, until Vertigo sends them down the water fall, until he saves them and takes them back to the Batcave. It is there where both Green Arrow and Batman reveal each other’s identity, and GA reveals who Count Vertigo is, tied to why he became Green Arrow. With that, Batman and Green Arrow head off.
As the third superhero team up in The Batman, we have Green Arrow. A thought popped into my mind, that I believe is true, that in having the first three teams up of Martian Manhunter, Superman, & now with Green Arrow might be due to these characters having a connection to Batman. Martian Manhunter was the first because he is a detective, like Batman, and he first appeared in Detective Comics, a Batman book, not to mention that he is the key to the JLA's existence. Superman was the second, and he was obvious since he and Batman are known as the World’s Finest and make up DC’s Top Two. Now with Green Arrow as number three; the only reason I can think of as to why he would be next is because back then, and somewhat now, he was like a Batman with a bow and arrow. With more proof like his Arrow-car, operating in an Arrow-cave (not the case anymore, thank god), and Speedy who was the Green Arrow version of Robin. So I believe that these three were picked because of a connection to Batman.
I have said in my “The Joining” two part review that Martian Manhunter was so much better than the JLU version, Green Arrow is the same. I’m not really dissing JLU< so don’t think that. But in this TB version of Green Arrow, he does things that Green Arrow does that the one in JLU never did. He sabotages companies that are doing things wrong, he is really the “voice of the left” like he was in the classic comics from the ‘70s. He even gets a sorta Robin Hood theme, playing on the character’s inspiration.
The last animated appearance of Count Vertigo was in Batman: The Animated Series, where he was after the same weapon Ra’s Al Ghul was after. Remembering the BTAS version to compare with the TB one; Count Vertigo is back as a Green Arrow, because BTAS he was a Batman type villain. He also is part of Green Arrow’s origin, sending him shipwreck which led to Ollie becoming Green Arrow. As for Vertigo himself, the idea that he was making kids sick was almost making him a real villain, until the third act where his motive was revealed to be to destroy Gotham. By then, he ended up as a regular bad guy. Sad. If he was doing what he did to the kids in connection to Oliver, it would have been better. Oh well.
Overall, this was still a good episode, so I give it a Yay. The animation, action, and everything except for one thing from the episode were still good. It was kind of sad to see Vertigo as a one off bad guy, because the beginning had him as a good villain before the reveal. It was great seeing the origin story to Green Arrow, maybe the first in any form (wasn’t in JLU, and only hinted in Smallville). So The Batman did a good job on that. Next episode seems to taking a break from the team-ups, as Batman, Robin and Batgirl fight Dr. Phosphorus in his first animated appearance.
RATING Yay
You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.
(crack!)
And I'm the surgeon.

That's not the Count Vertigo from the comics. The Vertigo that was in the Green Arrow episode had an articficial eye. The Vertigo in the comics was born with an inner ear defect and have to use a implant to help his balance.

Count Vertigo first appeared in Star City, where he attempted to steal back the jewels his parents had sold when they escaped to England after the war. The victim of a hereditary inner ear defect that affected his balance, Vertigo had a small electronic device implanted in his right temple that compensated this problem. Tinkering with the device, Vertigo learned he was able to affect other people’s balance as well, distorting their perceptions so that they literally couldn’t tell up from down, an effect known as vertigo. This would bring him in conflict with the heroes Green Arrow and Black Canary.

Ok episode.
Vertigo was a so-so villain...a weak introduction for Green Arrow into The Batman. GA was great though, I just didn't like the plot.
Rate 7.1/10
Ever get the feeling that maybe The Batman should be renamed "Justice Leaguer's" or something...I mean I'm not really complaining, but I'm feeling more like a DC team-up show than a Batman show.

I think having guest stars is a great way to end a series. I enjoyed this episode. Ever since Green Arrow showed up in Smallville, he's been a little more interesting to me. Although, I thought it would've been cooler if they created him to look like his Smallville counterpart.
I'm still having a hard time adjusting to a smiling Batman. Its just not him. And for some reason when Batman said "Hey, Arrow, its me Batman" It just sounded totally akward. Anyone else agree? |

LOL.. I agree... It sounded like Adam West, all we needed was Robin to say 'Holy Pointed Arrows!"

that's what i was thinking. batman seems a lot happier than before. TB is basically the animated version of the 1966 series, but a little bit darker and less campy. but i think with this particular episode, it wasn't dark at all.

Repeated for 10/27.
I have not changed my original rating after seeing it again. I can say however, this is the only episode (Vertigo) that I have ERASED from my DVR since the new season started. I did not like it enough to keep it and waste valuable space on my DVR's hardrive.
