No mad.
THE JOINING PART 2
PLOT:
Gotham faces its biggest threat ever – an alien invasion. Determined to save his city on his own, Batman learns even the greatest heroes must sometimes rely on a team.
REVIEW:
When season four was announced at comic con, it was stated to be the "fan friendly" season. While many were wondering what to expect, we weren't expecting another DC Superhero to appear in the show this season. All of the internet kept wondering who was going to meet with The Batman, and then at comic '06 it was revealed: Martian Manhunter. As fans geared up for his appearance, we found out the plotline of the two part season finale and before the airing, screenshots of how he was going to look. Was the hype worth it? Let's see.
The episode begins with the aliens hovering Gotham, and robotic alien spiders fighting TB and MM. They escape and head back to the batcave. Bruce watches the aliens attacking Gotham and all of them wonder how to stop them from destroying the world. Bruce points out their only link to The Joining that they used their company: the saucer they have. They create an energy device that disable the saucer, a plan forms but Batman doesn't want Bagirl nor Robin to come. While Batman and Martian Manhunter go inside Wayne Enterprises, and Alfred talks to Lucuius about an air show they took Bruce where they almost forget about Thomas Wayne's death, Batgirl & Robin go out anyway and stop the aliens and help Batman & MM. Batman activates a satellite but it gets blocked, but Lucuius and Alfred know about it from the Lucuius robot head and tell Batman he needs to activate it manually. Then the ships form together as a ring and prepare to destroy the world...
In the first part, Batman & Martian Manhunter weren't on the trusting each other, this goes down in part 2. Like in the scene inside the batmobile, MM points out that Batman should trust his partners, and they both work together inside Wayne Enterprises. And that continues throughout this episode where they help one another to stop and the aliens. Speaking of stopping the aliens, when the aliens attack Gotham, from the television screen in the batcave, it reminded me of a classic movie that makes sense for me to say: War of the Worlds. Even the sound of their lasers reminds me of that film. It’s expected, as from that story turned movie, every movie has followed it for their own alien vs. humans films. But just like Bats and MM, even Gotham like its police force isn’t going to back off. And shocking, Penguin, Joker, Freeze and the cops work together against the aliens. That’s something no one, even me, expected to see.
BTW, before this episode it was said or hinted or rumored that more superheroes were to appear. As the plot stated "team". Well if you wanted to see more superheroes here, then you'll be happy to see a cameo in the end by Green Lantern, Flash, Hawkman, and Green Arrow. And in the end, MM and those heroes take Batman (although he already knew) to their space station which is a space-based Hall of Justice (the HoJ design is used). And when Batman said "you have a League. Lets get to work", one thing popped into my head: LET'S START THE JUSTICE LEAGUE! This will be in the next season, BTW.
Overall, part 2 of The Joining continued the goodness in part 1 and gave us classic human vs. aliens and gave us a superhero team with Batman and his allies, and one DCU character. Just like some other episodes, a Superman reference is mentioned by Robin who says "there's work in Metropolis". But in that same scene, Batman reveals he doesn't wnat to lose them, so it moves from a reference joke to a superhero team as a family scene. I kinda like Lucuius Fox and Alfred working from the batcave when the invasion goes into the final phase. One can have some ideas with the Lucuius REALLY knowing Bruce and Batman are one of the same down the line. I wonder if anyone realized that this is the first time since season one that we got a season finale that was two parts. Kinda long since then, huh?
The Cameo appearance by other superheroes, and the start of the JLA, combining that with whom else will appear in season 5 like Superman, has got me excited for season 5 just as this season has ended. I really want to see the next episodes now, and see Superman, and what’s going with him and find out if he came before the start of The Batman or what. It will go back to those Metropolis jokes and that hidden statue of him back in "Grundy's Night". We shall see this fall.
RATING: 8.5/10

Honestly.. I'm glad The Batman isn't over.. but it would be a great way to end the series and start a new JLA toon..
I'm guessing this is a testing ground anyway. We could possibly get a JLA toon after the 5th season of TB....

I think season 5 will be not like Batman & the JLA. I think it'll be more like The Brave and the Bold. Be like a Batman team up season before leading to a new JLA show.
But what I'm wodnering about are these two things:
1) The status of Superman in The Batman. We've had Metropolis lines throughout the show, and we remember that hidden sattue from "Grundy's Night". Does he already exist? Did he start before The Batman started his or around this third year (meaning before the actual show)? The only other question, which is similar to the question on Teen Titans because of Robin, is TB Superman the same Superman from LoSH?
2) We already know, along with whom was seen in today's episode, that Superman & Aquman will appear in season 5. But what about Wonder Woman? She's important too the JLA as well, will she appear? It won't be complete, and be a letdown, if she doesn't appear.
You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.
(crack!)
And I'm the surgeon.

I will go out on a limb and say WW won't appear yet.
And you know.. I'm all for team ups.. but lets look at this:
13 eps
1) Superman
2) Flash
3) Hawkman
4) Green Arrow
5) Green Lantern
6) Auqaman
half of the series are team ups.. wheres that leave Robin and Batgirl? Like I said above.. I see it as a testing ground.. if it works well, we will see a new JLA toon...

I really don't see where they are going with this other than like you say a testing ground for a new JLA cartoon. which I am all for. It's a good way to have special guest on the an episode or two of The Batman.
The Batfamily could team up with one member of the league, like Hal or Oliver. But there will be no Superman. You know how WB feels about to much of one thing crossing over. Like no Bruce Wayne on Smallville due to Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. And there will not be a Superman on the hopefully future JLA as long as the Legion of Superheroes is still around.
But Technically was Superman apart of the first league, I know Manhanhuter has always been except for the current comic, but I don't belive Superman was apart of the first. And we all know as much as we like big blue, he's not what makes the league great, it's Batman. |

I think it's really cool that there's all those other heroes in the show. However, I don't care for another JL show, we just had one like a year ago. I hope that the other heroes don't star in every episode next season...it's Batman's show!

WB is weird.. While there is a Bat embargo.. and a Aquamna on.. there never was a Superman embargo. He could be in Smallville, JLU and the movies..
Anyway.. you can check out the official pictures released here:

another JL show is better than nothing. what would we be left with if TB and LOSH ended? i really cant imagine a life without DC cartoons, lol.
and i'm surprised ur not liking the guest stars. i love guest stars!! i cant wait to see batman interact with the other heroes for the first time. jon jonzz alone was really awesome.

Hey guys, here are two images of the JLA members. No HoJ, sorry. But that'll come soon. Not now, not today. Also, until I get a better one, the shot that showed GL, GA, Hawkman, and Flash was a pan shot. But the shot here only shows teh three and not Flash. But bare with it.

Edit - Nate.. I switched these out for the ones WB sent us, I just didn't get em in time..

After awaiting a new episode for weeks, I had to work last Saturday morning and missed part 1 of the season finale. I was left to play catch-up this week. And while I had heard about next season focusing on Bats' work with the League, I was totally surprised by the ending of this week's episode. What was most enjoyable about it was the era from which the Leaguers were drawn from. Hal Jordan GL and the original hoodless GA were very welcome. It made me fondly remember the 70's Brave & the Bold series. And for a brief moment, when I saw the Hall of Justice, I thought I was watching Super-Friends. It was a very nostalgic moment and I look forward to next season more than any other so far. |

They are finally going the right direction and making it known what we;ve always known, next season is Batman and his side kicks the Justice League.
But seriously does anyone know if there is any truth to the rumors of DC canceling all their Cartoons to focus on the direct to DVD movies. They talked about it at last years Comic Con how they were planning on making movies out of some of their major Storylines, like the Death of Superman, or Death in the Family etc. I guess there is more money in the direct to DVD movies. |
