VoicesFromKrypton.com has posted part 1 of their 3-part audio interview with Bruce Timm regarding the up-coming September 18th release of the direct-to-DVD animated feature "Superman: Doomsday".
The Death of Superman storyline from the 1990s is finally being adapted in the form of Superman: Doomsday, the made-for-DVD animated film that will debut in September, and which will be the first in a series of seminal DC storylines that will be adapted in this format. Superman: Doomsday is written by Bruce Timm (Justice League Unlimited) and Duane Capizzi (The Batman), with Timm also serving as producer. In this first part of an audio interview with Timm, we explore the reasons behind this story being chosen to kick off the animated films, and the power it holds for him from a creative point of view.
As a bonus, they included clear images of the DTV, both the storyboards and the final animations.

Interesting indeed.
I like the idea that this simply "kicks off" the project - potentially implying there is the scope for many more of these animated films, to which Dini offers no denial (although he doesnt confirm it either, he offers nothing).....
However; it's difficult to imagine this will appeal to all the people he hopes for. He mentions the story is partially aimed at non comic book fans, but I simply can't see your average DVD buyer/renter is going to be that keen to sit down on a Saturday night, with the lights down and a packet of popcorn and a coke - to a Superman cartoon! Yeah, of course they might choose a live action Spidey - but that (live action) is just the point! Since I first discovered Timm/Dini, I've told anyone who would care to listen about the wonderful world of BTAS, STAS, JL etc etc; to a man or a woman the answer is pretty much always "but it's a cartoon!"
