REVIEW:
Maxie Zeus appeared in the comics in 1979 and died in a Wonder Woman issue where he actually met the gods he worshipped. He only appeared in BTAS once as what he is; a maniac who is obsessed with the Greek Gods that he thinks he is one. I was thinking how in a kid's show, where anything meaning to the word "God", was taken out and how they going to do that with this kind of character. But one thing I did know; this episode technially by original airdate plans and production codes is before "The Apprentice". So I knew what happened in that episode didn't occur yet.

The episode is like this: there was an election between Maximillion Zeus & Grange. Zeus seemed to be the right guy until his ideas invovled the Greek and their gods like using royal guards as the cops. With him losing the election, he becomes Maxie Zeus and by wearing the battle armor of Gods, he starts by destroying what he believes to be the currupted evil forces in Gotham like City Hall, and begins taking over as rule of Gotham.

The verdict: nice. While they didn't use the word "God" as I knew they wouldn't for a kids show, the pictures on the walls of Zeus' ship, the way the battle armor for him and the royal guards, and of course the name "Zeus" does still give the point. Plus, Zeus tells Batman a anicent Greek story that I heard (and can't recall).

Zeus' ship, while something I doubt he would do secretly....well then Batman can do it so the other villians and their toys. Anyway, his ship was something dangerous and terriflying for Gotham. It destroyed City Hall, whch makes you think if anyone was in it since they didn't show people running from the building. And its design, also from Zeus and who he is and whom he worships, is based on Anicent Greek Architecture. It's called New Olympus.

This episode was better in terms on how characters acted, even Grange. He may have come off as another father figure for Bruce since he was friends with Thomas Wayne and how he acted in "The Big Heat" on how Bruce should appear business wise. But since then, he's been there. That's still kinda similar here. The difference is that while it only last one scene, he says that even if Batman is Gotham's protector, the fact that they're fighting a man with his own ship and own power to destroy and kill without mercy so people can worship him doesn't mean they can rely on one man to take care of it. That's smart.

Oh and Batman gets a new vechile: the Batwing. And a flight suit to go with it. Made me think of that issue from the HUSH arc.

For Zeus himself and his guards, Phil LaMarr does a great voice. His presents a "powerful" force of villianly when he commands his troops. He's been too obessive with the Greek Gods. And for his guards, the way he talks and whom he believes makes me think, and it makes sense, that these people came from a cult. Anyone would agree with that.

BTW, I guess this epsiode got the wrong production code or something to confuse even me. But this episode takes place after Apprentice because Batman officially accepts Batgirl and gives her her own Batwave, new belt and weapons. Because if this was before Apprentuice, then she would've been seen with these and used them against Joker. So it has to be, and it is, after Apprentice. Can't be the other way around.

Batgirl fans, or Batman and Batgirl, rejoice! She's now IN!

Overall, this was a great episode. Zeus wasn't altered anywheer to make him really different. He was threatening and while she still isn't IN THE CAVE AND KNOWING THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK, Batgirl is still officially part of Batman's gig.

RATING: 8.5/10

^ Phil Lamar is a great voice actor.

Anywho, this was an awesome episode. I loved how they made Maxie Zeus, he was very refreshing in this show. He seemed so different from how most of the enemies in The Batman act.

Batgirl was really well used in the episode, without taking the spotlight of Batman himself. I liked the bit at the end when she gets her new gear, she's still not full on sidekick hangin at the mansion, but she's gettin' there.

I liked Batman's ninja-esque look while he was captured. And his beating up the guards was pretty sweet.

Overall a great great great episode, probably my favorite of season 3 thus far, and definately one of my favorites of the whole series.

I wonder what the last 2 episodes of the season will look like, I was expecting Maxie Zeus to be the finale, but I guess that's not the case. (unless he shows up again for some reason, but I don't see him returning that quickly)

...and the escape pods, and the superlaser, and the Batwing/TIE fighter...I thought they were trying to make a drinking game out of the sci-fi movie references:

- For every Star Wars reference, take 1
- For every Independence Day reference, take 2
- For every Spaceballs reference, take 3

Overall, I enjoyed the episode more than I expected to. I always thought Maxie is one of the weakest villains, so I have a hard timelooking forward to anything involving his character. They did a decent job here, though.

Here's the the thing, guys: the next episode confirmed by one of the interviews of the crew of TB features the team up of Mr. Freeze & Penguin. Now, that's one. The last one might (must for me) invovle Hugo Strange because of his actions and the villian set up of him in "A Fistful of Felt".

It either could be with one episode of the Freeze/Penguin team up and the last beign Batman vs. Strange. Or.....a two part finale with Strange hiring Penguin and Freeze against Batman.

Maxie Zeus.

A character I didn't even care for in BTAS. The guy seems to be a retard with no purpose.

Anyway the episode was still pretty good, decent fight scenes. The obvious Stars Wars overtones shows a lack of creativity...but I still enjoyed it to a degree.

I rate 8.1/10

I don't like the idea of Penguin and Freeze working with Strange. Maybe Strange could be involved with the penguin freeze episode, but then in the last episode its all about him and his craziness.

Either that or 2 seperate episodes.

I hope we get information on these episodes soon.

I forgot another thing:

In interviews, another new original villian will appear: Dave. Accoording to Capazzi, Dave is an ultimate criminal mastermind. He's a unique, new adversary for Batman and the episode is a good, old fashioned Batman tale as said by Bradon Vetti, one of the directors.

It was an interesting episode. I just felt really strange from the beginning. Zeus seems to be very popular in the campaign for mayor, then suddenly scares the daylights out of everyone by coming into town with a giant laser-blasting ship. Batman's pilot gear was pretty cool, maybe worthy of a custom job. I thought it was strange that Batgirl could be so careless and talk outloud so often yet not get caught by Zeus's super space shuttle guards. But if she can be that good, imagine when she's actually trying. Smile

Zeus was portrayed pretty well, although it's so obvious that that's the same guy that plays Bruce Wayne. He just threw on some fake facial hair and dyed his hair grey. :rol:
