Extended News While Director Christopher Nolan has stayed mum on the next Batman movie, the rumors have been flying regarding everything from the potential villains to the prospect of the film happening at all! Feeding into those rumors, Michael Caine told MTV News that he himself has spoken to an unidentified WB Exec who told him first hand that Philip Seymour Hoffman is being brought on board as The Penguin (Oswald Cobblepot) alongside the often rumored Johnny Depp who will be playing the Riddler (Edward Nigma). “I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘S–t, they’ve done it again!’” [Laughs] This would certainly conflict with reports from both Johnny Depp himself and screen writer David Goyer who has stated that the third film would focus on lesser-known villains yet to receive screen time in a Bat-Film before. Meanwhile, others are maintaining that Chris Nolan is finished with the Bat-Franchise and plans to move on. Frank Miller spoke to the LA Times about this possibility of a "Dark Knight Returns" movie helmed by a different director and was quoted as saying he'd like to see none other than Rambo himself (Sylvester Stallone) put on the cape and cowl. "Just that mouth of his, the scowl and the way it would look in a mask. I loved 'Rocky Balboa.' This wounded warrior, that's what Batman is in 'Dark Knight Returns.'" While there is certainly no way to prove nor really dis-prove either gentlemen, it's always fun to dive into some movie rumors - especially when the movie in question is the follow-up to one of the highest grossing movies ever. Certainly something to save for posterity's sake. We will continue to keep you updated as new rumors (and certainly any solid information) become available. Hear anything we haven't?
