PLOT:
With Batman gone, Gotham City finds itself in need of (amongst other things) a world class detective. Stepping up to the plate is none other than the Riddler. The recently reformed crook cockily goes from case to case showing off his detective skills with loads of flare but very little respect for the Gotham PD. Left with no other options, Gordon begrudgingly accepts the help of this Batman replacement but it seems as though he's not the only one eyeing the Riddler for his detective skills.

Leaving the scene of one of his latest busts, Riddler steps into his stretch limo and prepares for his next case when he realizes that he's been kidnapped by Batgirl! Cassandra offers Nigma a place on her team she's building to fill the void left by Batman. Before Nigma can accept or decline however, Nightwing shows up in the middle of the road and challenges Cass to a fight.

Angry about being left in the dark about her network and still not full accepting of Cassandra's status as a Wayne Family member, Nightwing and Cassandra begin duking it out in an alleyway nearby. The two are still exchanging blows when Alfred tears down the alley in the Batmobile coming to stop just in front of them.

Stepping out of the vehicle, Alfred orders the two to stop fighting and reveals to Dick that he not only knew about Cassandra's network but also gave it his blessing. Alfred reminds Dick that the concept of what Batman stood for may be more important than just one man or one method.

After Alfred drives away, Batgirl and Nightwing sort out their emotions and agree to put the past behind them. Batgirl asks Nightwing to head up her network and Dick gladly accepts.

While Batgirl and Nightwing are shaking hands in agreement, someone not too far away is keeping a close eye on them. The man with glowing red eyes prepares himself to be worthy of some great title, accepting countless lashes from a whip that scar up his entire back. He is given the Suit of Sorrows (last seen missing from the rubble of the Bat-Cave in Batman & the Outsiders #11 and it calls to him. But a mysterious sect of monks demand his patience - preparing for the right moment to unleash their Angel of Death unto the City of Gotham.
