After curing Cliff, Buddy and Kori decide that they need to regenerate Kori's powers so that she can produce a strong enough blast of light to cure the city. In order to do that they must get Starfire to Rann where she can fully re-charge her powers. Before they can leave for Rann, healers arrive to take the source of the virus away. Instead of taking Starfire however, they capture Animal Man and begin to fly away... Adam Strange uses his re-acquired equipment to help him break into Sardath's lab. There his instincts tell him that he will need to use the Zeta Beam to cure the virus and stop the Rann sanctioned attack on the Thanagarian people (set into motion by the rabid population). Before he can figure it out, Champ Hazard bursts into the room and shoots him in the chest in the name of Lady Styx!

Things get ugly quick however when the ship that she's aboard is intercepted by space pirates, the head of which is the treacherous Captain Lazaar. Lazaar kidnaps the ship's technician who turns out to be a bounty hunter on the trail of Lazaar. Before the bounty hunter can claim her bounty, Forerunner bursts in. After Lazaar and claiming the ship as her own, Forerunner aquaints herself with her crew including the parasite keeping the ship alive, Neex. Forerunner and the bounty hunter strike up a deal to help one another but before Viza can get settled Neex alerts them that a Thanagarian fleet is closing in on them.
