Batman (Dick Grayson); Robin (Damian Wayne); Azrael (Michael Lane); Question (Renée Montoya); Harvey Bullock; Detective Josie MacDonald; Amon;
Misanthrope; Daystar; Mystes; Tanimin; Alyssa Canton; Jackson Canton
PLOT:
Batman arranges for a specially chartered jet to pick the Question up in Los Angeles and bring her back home to
Gotham. Renée arrives to find her fair city in an uproar. La Saligia's personification of Gluttony has infected the
minds of citizens using his swarm of flies which the citizens then unwittingly swallow before turning mad. But her
assistance is needed elsewhere.
Escorted blindfolded back to the Bunker, Question can automatically sense that something has changed. Putting one
and one together she immediately expresses her sympathy for Nightwing's loss. But there's no time for emotionality.
Dick relays the facts of the case to Montoya. Together they analyze the cult's mantra and deduce that the cult
members have gathered beneath the intersection of Fioroni Street and Clement Avenue.
There the seven members of Saligia stand united around the seven children of the Seven Shrouders. When the Eight
Sinner died, his body was sealed in a tomb - the seven keys which would unlock his remains scattered to the corners
of the Earth. Now that these keys have been united, the cultists plan on draining the blood of each of the seven
children until the Eight Sinner is ressurrected on the eight day. At which point will begin the destruction of the
holy church as it stands today.
The only problem is that they don't realize that the seventh child is an imposter. Morevoer this imposter is Damian
Wayne, sole biological offspring of Bruce Wayne, and one deadly youngster in his own right. Shortly after the dagger
pierces the flesh of the first child (a portly young boy representing sloth), Damian breaks free of his restraints
and takes off throught he sewers. But he's already been dosed by the psychotropic poisons of Dayster and as he
reaches the surface he finds himself tempted by Mystes, the embodiement of lust. Luckily for him, Azrael arrives on
the scene to silence Mystes with the gleaming Sword of Salvation. Launching a quick smoke screen to deter the other
cult members who attempt to surround them, Azrael and Robin return to the sewers to go and rescue the children.
Meanwhile, Batman and the Question are on their way to rescue Robin themselves when word of a riot comes across the
police band. Gluttony's maddened citizens have shown up at the Canton penthouse. Arriving outside the Canton residence, Batman
can see Batman knows he can take care of the cultist but he still needs Question to get inside the Canton house
ASAP.
Using the Batmobiles ejector seat he launches Renée skyward. But by the time she reaches the penthouse it's already
too late. Tanimin, wielding the power over Envy had attacked the family. Even the stalwart police presence of Harvey
Bullock wasn't enough to stop her from making off with the boy. Though he kept Josie Mac from killing anyone with
her service weapon, Mr. Canton was forced to shove a shard of glass through his lovely wife's carrotted artery.
Montoya's cop instincts tell her to stay with Harv but the grizzled police vet urges her to go on and find the boy.
Of course Harvey recognizes his old partner if only because of her umistakeable hind quarters.
Renée races back to the Batmobile where she and Batman catch up with Tanimin. They incapaccitate the mad woman and
retrieve the child. Meanwhile back below ground, Azrael will stop at nothing to save those children and destroy the
corpse of the Eight Sinner. He impales one cult member and slices the hand off of another before finally making his
way to the Eighth Sinner's sarcophagus. Just then, Question arrives alongside Batman to help take out the rest of La
Saligia.
Azrael knows that he's made several lifelong enemies that day. The cult members swear to make their return one day.
And when they do they threaten to use Azrael as their host for the Eight Sinner. But perhaps more pressing is the
displeasure Batman feels towards Azrael's extra-violent methods. Ultimately however, Batman may rule Gotham but it's
God that Michael Lane answers to. And how he is judged on that day remains to be seen.
