PLOT:
Metron appears at the dawn of time and grants Anthro the knowledge of fire. Anthro in turn uses that knowledge to defend his village from a band of marauders threatening his people.

Millions upon millions of years later grizzled detective Dan "Terrible" Turpin is using that same gift of fire to light up a cigarette while he continues his search for six children who have gone missing. During his stroll he comes across Orion, a New God, lying in garbage mostly dead.

As Turpin leans in to check on the 'super muk muk,' Orion begins spouting off about heaven being cracked and broken. "They did not die! He is in you all..." the son of Darkseid shouts before collapsing.

At the same moment, Green Lantern John Stewart receives an alert code he had never heard before - a 1011, the death of a New God. With Green Lantern on the scene, Turpin returns to his search for the missing children as the skies begin to turn an ominous shade of red. While walking away he comes across the Question who tips him off about something called "The Dark Side Club." Turpin goes to investigate

Hal Jordan arrives in time to provide back up for Stewart and he decides that the Guardians need to be alerted. When the Guardians hear of this development they immediately order the area quarantined and searched for clues. They also inform the Green Lanterns that they are sending a special operations Alpha Lantern to aide them in their investigation. Likewise, the Justice League declares a condition amber and prepares to disseminate all known information on the New Gods to any and all members who may have never encountered them before.

Elsewhere, the Rogues are staging a protest against their unfair treatment while Mirror Master and Doctor Light retrieve Metron's chair from a junkyard to deliver it to Libra. Upon receiving Metron's chair back at his strip club hide out, Libra makes a final demonstration of power to help convince anyone still undecided about joining him. As a gift for the long tormented Human Flame, Libra delivers Martian Manhunter, fresh off of the Prison Planet. With everyone watching, Libra murders Martian Manhunter in cold blood.

While waiting in a bar, Turpin sees on the news that the people of Bludhaven are still without aide and losing hope of salvation. Before the newscast can finish he is accosted by Tattooed Man who leads him to the Dark Side Club.

Inside he finds Boss Dark Side, the human incarnation of Darkseid. Darkseid tells Turpin that there was a war in heaven and he won! He invites Turpin to see exactly what has become of the missing children. He tells him that they've been taken to Granny and taught the Anti-Life Equation. He instructs the children to show the detective exactly what they know about "anti-life"

Finally the Monitors have joined together and have secured all of the bleeds coming in or out of New Earth, the cornerstone of existence. They have also decided to hand down sentencing against Nix Uotan, Monitor of Earth-51 whom the Monitors feel endangered the "Orrery of Worlds." Nix Uotan is sentenced to live out the rest of his life as a mortal. As he is sent away his lover Weeja Dell screams for him and deals with the sadness of losing him - an emotion unfamiliar to the Monitors who were once emotionless beings without any identities of their own. This too is blamed upon Nix Uotan for they feel that he has allowed them to be contaminated by these emotions. In the shadows, the Monitor Ogama smiles as all is going according to his evil plan.

Back at the dawn of time, Anthro is painting the symbol of Metron when he suddenly finds himself in the strange and unfamiliar world of Kamandi, last boy on Earth. Kamandi rushes towards Anthro demanding from him the weapon Metron gave him against the Gods. Unfortunately for Kamandi, Anthro speaks no English and seems confused and frightened by his startling change of surroundings.

Somewhere far away from the life he once knew, Nix Uotan wakes up in bed with no memory of his previous life. As his his minds races the television plays in the background showing the heroes dealing with the death of Martian Manhunter and vowing to avenge him at any cost.
