PLOT:
Thanks to his trusty Impact-Proof vest, Mr. Miracle has escaped death once again. Dusting himself off, he explains to Mr. Terrific and the others that Darkseid's fall has broken time and space. He says that the devil-god is dragging humanity down with him into a deep, dark hole in time and in order to combat that he urges
everyone to paint their faces with the symbol of Metron as he and the Super Young Team have.
Elsewhere in the Checkmate castle, teams are working around the clock to produce an army of Generation-Zero Biomacs to help in the war for humanity's survival. Amanda Waller gives Renée Montoya a tour of the facility while outside
borders and battle lines grow further apart as space itself begins to distort.
Legions of heroes from across the planet converge on the bridge into Blüdhaven and begin to battle with the denizens of Darkseid and Kalibak's Tiger-Clan. Black Adam attempts to kill Mary Marvel whom he says is
possessed by a "leering old man" (possibly Desaad) but Freddie won't let him kill her. Her abilities charged by a new blasphemous name of power, Mary Marvel capitalizes on Freddie's inability to
kill her and defeats both Black Adam and Freddie. Leaving Mr. Talky-Tawny in the hands of Kalibak, Mary zooms off towards her prime-objective, Supergirl. She intercepts the Kryptonian teenager in mid-air and the two plummet to the ground, crashing down in a sonic explosion that can be seen from miles away.
Facing the minions of hell, the President of the United States sits defeated with a pistol clutched in his hands, preparing to end his own life as the Justifier troops uncover his hidden bunker.
As the skies continue to darken into a deeper shade of blood red, Lex Luthor watches with a guilty conscience as Calculator is tried as a traitor in the court of Libra. Not suspecting
Luthor in the least, Libra charges that it was Calculator who passed
on the word of the Ünternet to the heroes and helped them form their battle plans.
Far, far away another trial begins as Hal Jordan is brought before the Guardians on charges of
deicide for the death of Orion. Thankfully, Lanterns Rayner and Gardner stand up in his defense and unmask Kraken as being possessed by Granny Goodness. The scar on Hal's head (once thought to be left by Orion as he fought for his life) is actually a residual surgery scar left from when the inhibitor was placed in Hal's skull. The machine serves the dual purpose of blocking out Hal's memories of the night Orion was killed as well as keeping Kraken's true identity concealed. Realizing the jig is up,
Granny/Kraken makes a play for the Power Battery but it vanishes before her eyes as part of a built in security measure. The Lanterns overpower Kraken and she is placed in a Sciencell for examination.
Cleared of all charges, Jordan is given back his ring and tasked with saving the universe. The Lanterns then
proceed to head towards Earth. As they begin to descend into the atmosphere, the entire universe begins to distort before their eyes, worlds crashing all around them.
With Kraken revealed and the play for the Power Battery failed, Darkseid learns of another shortcoming. His minions report that the Batman Psycho-Merge had killed the entire clone army that they were attempting to build.
His disciples fall around him, pleading for their lives as he stands and lays claim to the bodies of all those infected by the Anti-Life. Across the globe, billions stand at attention as Darkseid inhabits each of their bodies, every limb, thought and action
under his control. The dawn of the Fifth World is upon us all. All is one in Darkseid.
Deep within the Command-D bunker, Nix Uotan has been captured and locked away in a cell with others that for whatever reason are Immune to the Anti-Life. Nix has all but given up hope on humanity being saved.
He finds himself in a cell with a strange furry man and a seemingly insane man in a wheelchair toying with a
Rubik's Cube. The strangers tell Nix not to give up hope, saying that he can create anything just by thinking it up. They urge him to search within himself for a name or a memory that will remind him of who he truly is.
Nix pauses for a moment and recalls the face of the girl from his drawings
- his true love, Weeja Dell. As Nix says the words aloud, the man in the wheelchair solves the
Rubik's cube puzzle in 17 moves - one move less than the "god number" of 18. The cube makes the familiar ping noise of a
Motherboxxx and the man, apparently possessed by the spirit of Metron smiles watching Nix Uotan transform back into his true self. A flash of
brilliant blue light fills the cell
and when it fades, Nix is standing proudly, dressed as a Monitor once more and proclaiming that "The judge of all evil is here."
But will it be enough?
