PLOT:
Blackest Night, the prophecy that would consume Abin Sur and turn him into a pariah amongst the Green Lantern Corps has finally come to pass. Sinestro, his former partner, regrets ever doubting him now.
He regrets a few things in fact. Doubting Abin Sur, allowing for the death of Abin's sister (and Sinestro's lover) Arin. But
chiefly among these regrets is the state in which his Sinestro Corps have fallen to while he was
imprisoned on Oa and
awaiting execution.
His corps are what bring him here, to Zamaron, home of Star Sapphires where a hail of black rings continue to fall, driven by their search for death. The love inspired Lantern Corps had been trying to "re-educate" his fear-driven corpsmen and
indoctrinate them with their love. Now Sinestro is calling for an evacuation of Qward to a safe-world outside the Anti-Matter Universe. They too are forced to fight for their
lives just like the Sapphires. Carol Ferris, arguably the most powerful of the Star Sapphires, is more than familiar with Sinestro, the arch enemy of her true love Hal Jordan. Neither combatant realizes that soon Hal Jordan himself will be arriving alongside
Indigo-1 and her first in command.
Jordan and the Indigo lanterns are on a galaxy-wide search for the members of each lantern corps across the light spectrum. Since it's the combination of these light energies that can defeat the Black lanterns, even the unlikely duo of Sinestro
and Hal Jordan must work together if they want to thwart this great menace. And much like the imperiled planet Earth before, this rogue band of Lanterns are forced to flee Zamaron as it begins to fall into the clutches
of the Black Lanterns. The bodies of the two lovers Khufu and Chay-Ara, which sit at the core of the Sapphire's power battery are themselves targeted by the death seeking black rings. And with their rise comes a substantial loss of stability within the forces holding the dreaded
Predator at bay meaning that the voracious nearly uncontrollable embodiment of the Star Sapphires is now once again on the loose. Carol looks on in horror but soon she and the others are
engulfed in a brilliant flash of blue light. And in a moment they're gone.
As the Indigo light fades the pilgrims find themselves not on the home planet of yet another Corps but on Kurugar - the homeworld of Sinestro and newly minted home of the Mongul Corps. Sinestro is aghast to see how his people have been treated under Mongul's reign of terror. Refusing all help from Hal and the others, Sinestro decides to finally
reclaim his Corps from the hulking yellow behemoth. And, defying all odds, he does just that! Proving that he is in fact the true leader of his fear Corps, Sinestro promises to finally execute the traitorous Mongul once the undead plague has passed. Until then he is to be kept frozen in a state of suspended
animation within the Yellow Power Battery. Grateful citizens of Kurugar and Sinestro Corpsmen alike fill the streets and shout their praises.
But back in Sector 666, Scar has been keeping watch over the Indigo light as it flickers from location to location across the starscape. Eager to extinguish the long evasive Indigo lanterns' light, Scar decides to order the
Black Lanterns to follow the Indigo light wherever it goes. And for this particular occasion, she dispatches a very special team of Black Lanterns to meet Sinestro on Kurugar. As the dust settles following his battle with Mongul, Sinestro finds waiting for him
none other than Black Lanterns Abin and Arin Sur!
Meanwhile, a small voice calls out to John Stewart from the depths of the re-constituted planet of Xanshi. And the noble Green Lantern submerges himself in the blackness in order to investigate.
