This just came in from BOF.
Nolan Talks TDK!
Author: Jett
Wednesday, August 23, 2006 - 9:54 AM CENTRAL TIME: Nolan has finally spoken publicly about the upcoming film, THE DARK KNIGHT. Via BETTERTHANFUDGE.COM, here?s a bit of what the director had to say:
Regarding the theme of the film: ?I suppose in loose terms I can say it?s about things having to get worse before they get better.?
Can anything be inferred from the title of the film? ?Ultimately yes. But I?ll leave that for people to infer The title has been chose very specifically. It?s quite important to the film.?
Will The Joker be different that past live-action interpretations? ?Yes. I would certainly point to The Killing Joke but I also would point very much to the first two appearances of The Joker in the comic. If you look at where The Joker comes from there?s a very clear direction that fits what we?re doing very well.?
Thanks to all the BOF'ers who sent in the info...
The word going around is that there may be some new THE DARK KNIGHT news coming in September. The last time I heard such rumblings was just prior to the Ledger/TDK announcements...
You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.
(crack!)
And I'm the surgeon.

...So The Joker is going to be darker than in past films, this film will be darker than Begins, and they picked the title carefully.
I wonder when the press, or anyone else who interviews people from the movie, will learn to ask new questions instead of picking three of four to ask all the time. :|

Never. It would require them to know something about the subject and think of a good question.

So his version of the Joker is informed not only by The Killing Joke, but also by the two Joker stories in Batman #1, waaaay back in 1940. Interesting. The joker was a far more sinister figure then, even more so than he is now.

I'm liking the sound of this.... it'll be interesting to see heath ledger bring the joker to life, especially if he's going to be as dark as they say (or hint) he is going to be
"I went around the world, searched in all the shadows. And there is something out there in the darkness, something terrifying, something that will not stop until it gets revenge... Me"
