Thanks to everyone who has read my fan-fics! I'm hoping to break the record of views of fan-fics done by me, which is currently held by Batman Legacy (I believe).

I'll be updating my story more next week, with plenty of free time to conjur up more ideas for the lot of you who are following this tale.

Thanks again and I hope you are enjoying my take on the dark knight. feedback and opinions is always helpful. It allows for me to perfect my story and try to make it as good as it can be without having it fall apart and run all over the place.

wow I should really update the story this weekend lmao....

anyways right now I'm in between two ideas. One of them could lead to another (and final) fan fic that has superman making an appearance in it and one of hte main characters making a "dent" in gotham (haha my only clue)... or I could go with the story I have now and try to link it to the fourth.....

for those of you reading, if i do decide to do this otehr idea, I WILL be including bits of this story.. so if thats a problem, well it shouldnt be.

I'll try to update the story this weekend (as llong as physics doesnt stand in my way!)

ok I'm a reallllllly bad liar.

Here's to 2007 and my resolution to stop procrastinating.

I'm going to brainstorm tomorrow and finalize my ideas so I can finally wrap this story up and leave the readers with a good taste in their mouth. The problem is I don't want to overcomplicate my story in an attempt to amaze people, I have to keep it simple and I have to keep it batma

Mark’s eyes fluttered open and as if an angel itself had heard his wish, there was his wife, Kim looking back at him.

“You’re awake, I was so worried,” she said with a smile, grabbing Mark and hugging him as he lay on the bed.

“You’re alive!” Mark said in surprise, holding his wife tightly.

“Why wouldn’t I be? Bats?” her voice began to grow deep and masculine, her face warping into the hideous image of Devon Frost. Mark grabbed the gun sitting next to him and took aim. The report of the shot was thunderous in the small room, leaving Mark’s ears ringing. He opened his eyes and saw Kim clutching an open wound in her chest before she fell to the floor and landed in a pool of blood.

Mark woke up screaming her name, tears escaping from his eyes. “Kim,” he said silently, clutching the wedding ring he had gotten so long ago?

Flashes of the two years flowed into his head as he recounted the events that had fallen upon him. His injuries came from the ending battle with Messor, whose body was never found. As he lay dying a man rescued him and brought him to this warehouse, to recover and train. His name was Nightwing and Batman owed him everything but in some ways Batman had just wished he could have died, so he could see Kim and overlook his daughter.

It had been two years since he found out his daughter was alive, two years since Frost mocked the death of his wife, two years since the real Mark awoke from deep within Batman, clinging to the possibility that his daughter was alive.

He had remained hidden and recovered from the injuries he received during his fight with Messor since then, clinging to that hope and using it to drive him and prepare him for the trials ahead.

Mark now had something deeper then a promise to drive him; it was the commitment that every parent made when they create life, to offer protection. Mark had failed and he made it a promise that he would make up for it and find his daughter, whether he would die doing it or not. That was his lone reason for deciding that today was the day of the bat, and that Gotham would reacquaint itself with its dark defender.

Stretching, Mark changed and looked in the mirror before thinking, it’s time. A grim determination powered him and he would use that power to the extent of his will.

The clanging of his footsteps were muffled cries, ignored and forgotten as he made his way to the lower level. His eyes focused on a large cylindrical tube in the center of the room. It was surrounded by tables of weaponry and computers.

His eyes familiarized themselves with the costume suspended in the tube; it was like meeting an old friend after a long period. During his time in hiding Mark never once looked at the costume, his other side, nor had he thought about it. Right now it was all he could think about. Two minutes later and the familiar logo was displayed proudly, stretching across his entire chest. His hands reached up and pulled down the demon like cowl, covering his face and stealing his humanity. The transformation was complete. Batman exhaled slowly, allowing the moment to last.

The sound of footsteps drew him from his thoughts and back to reality as Nightwing walked down the large metal stairs.

“Is it time?” He asked his eyes glued to Batman’s.

“It’s time,” he replied, walking over to the Enforcer.

“Watch out for the police,” Nightwing called as the thrusters roared to life. Fire spewed from the boosters and a few moments later he was gone. The warehouse door slammed shut as the Enforcer exited and Batman appeared on Gotham’s streets and reentered the lives of the people who lived there. A buzzing noise on the Enforcer’s console snatched his attention, the computer spitting out details on a suspected drug shipment.

“Perfect,” Batman said the Enforcer tore through the streets, its beast like roar warding off any who dare oppose it.

Gotham City Docks, North side

The waves smashed into the dockside, its thunderous claps stinging the ears of those who passed by. If they knew what was good for them, they would keep on walking thought Brandon. He touched his holstered gun for reassurance and then continued walking around the dock, watching for potential trespassers and cops.

“See anything?” Olsen asked, lighting up a cigarette.

“No, anyone with half a brain knows to steer clear of this place.”

“Whatever; just don’t get lazy. You know how important this shipment is to Mr. Steel.”

“What the hell is it we’re transporting anyways? He’s been tossing money everywhere to keep things under wraps, makes a guy curious.”

“Curiosity killed the cat, don’t let it do the same to you,” Olsen said, tossing his cigarette on the ground and walking off into the shadows.

“I’m no f*cking feline,” he said to himself.

A sudden sound from the end of the dock caused Brandon to tighten his grip on his gun almost instantly.

“Who’s there?” No reply. Sweat began to roll down the back of Brandon’s neck, irritating his skin. He aimed his gun at the end of the dock, the fog setting in. Great, just great he thought to himself. Nervous and scared, Brandon nearly walked off the dock, dropping his gun into the water as a result.

You have got to be kidding me he thought to himself. Lying down on the dock, he reached into the water, searching for his gun. His hand grabbed something smooth and it was anything but metallic.

“Holy sh…?” Brandon cried as he was yanked underwater, the last thing he saw was a pair of demonic eyes as they threatened to steal his soul.

The cry could be heard from the crane as they loaded crate after crate. Olsen dropped his cigarette and pulled out his gun.

“You three, with me,” he signaled to his partners nearby. They pulled out their weapons and switched into a sprint, chasing after Olsen.

“Brandon?” He called out, loading his gun. Olsen signaled to the three men, telling them to spread out.

“Brandon?” A shadow stood on the dock, the fog scrambling its appearance.

“Brandon, what the hell is going on?” Olsen asked, walking up to him.

“Brandon?” The shadow turned around and its eyes met with Olsen’s.

“My god,” he said, emptying his gun at the creature. The bullets disappeared into the creature and it began to walk faster, welcoming the fire. Its eyes glowed hellishly and its horns increased its demonic appearance. Olsen could only scream before its bat-like wings encased him and took him.

At the sound of his scream, Olsen’s partners began to fire bursts into the fog, hoping to strike his attacker.

“Think we got him?” One of them asked. He soon got an answer as a giant bat-like figure flew out of the fog and landed on him, striking him in the neck with its fist. He crumpled helplessly as the others fired on reflex. The creature flipped backwards and threw something. The projectile sliced through the first gunman’s hand, taking off three fingers as it sliced through the handle of the gun.

“Lew!” the second gunman cried, shooting his last rounds at the creature. His eyes widened, dropping the empty gun as he turned to run. Pain shot up his leg as something stabbed into his ankle, yanking him to the ground. He screamed as he was pulled towards the creature, a line of blood being drawn on the ground from his leg wound. A few seconds later and his scream was silenced, its echo lost to the thundering waves.

Five minutes later and the screams of the remaining gang members could be heard from miles away, only to be silenced as quickly as they began.

The police arrived swiftly, swarms of blue overtaking the docks. They lowered their guns as they stared ahead, not sure if this was real. Before them were at least twenty, maybe thirty gang members all of them hung by their wrists on a rope that was attached to opposite facing crates. Beneath them was a giant bat logo composed of flames, their tongues searing the feet of the captured.

“Someone get Damon. Now!” ordered a cop, “He needs to see this.”

Damon was in charge of the GCPD and was the unofficial mayor of Gotham. Two years ago, on the orders of the president, he was sent to revive Gotham City. Armed with fleets of police and assorted workers, he slowly helped rebuild the once great city without the help of Gotham’s missing Dark Knight.

“What is it?” Damon asked the cop as he walked up to him.

“Take a look for yourself,” he replied, pointing at the scene ahead of him.

Damon took off his sunglasses and walked up to the flaming symbol.

“What does this mean?” Someone asked from behind him.

“It means we have a vigilante and I want them taken out, no matter what the cost,” Damon replied coldly, the burning bat logo reflecting off his sunglasses.

“Yessir,” they replied.

One block away, watching from the rooftops for the first time in two years was the Dark Knight. He breathed deeply before disappearing into the alleyways and melting into the shadows.

Below the remnants of Arkham Asylum

The fluids seared his body as it began to regain form. Pain flashed across Messor’s body as he rose from the vat. He screamed in a burst of anger, not knowing why he was doing it, only that he was.

“Secure him!” A male voice cried, signaling for two guards to approach and cuff him.

Messor roared and lashed out at one guard, grabbing hold of his neck and snapping it like a toothpick. The sickly noise echoed off the cavern walls along with Messor’s bear like growl.

“Stand down,” A man said, pointing something at him. He strained his blurred vision but it came to no avail. Suddenly a wave of exhaustion came over him, causing him to drop to both knees.

“Who the hell are you?” Messor mumbled, spitting up green liquid as he stared up at the man he was addressing.

“The name is Ivan Steel,” he said with a smile, his cold blue eyes the last thing Messor could remember before slipping into the realm of the unconscious.

Gotham City

The sirens hit Batman’s ears like a tidal wave, strong and unsuspected. He had thought that he had lost them a few blocks back. He was wrong. Perched on a spire, helicopters swarmed him and voices boomed at him from their metal bodies.

“Drop your weapons and surrender, this is our final warning,” A male cop ordered. Batman smiled beneath his cowl and pulled out Vengeance and Mercy. This would be interesting. The batarangs flew from his hands and cut through the bodies of the helicopters and shattered the searchlights, cutting through them as if they were constructed of paper. The batarangs hit Batman’s palms and before waiting for a reply, he dropped off the spire, holding his cape tight to his body.

Bullets shot off the side of the building as a police officer outfitted with a glide pack dropped after him.

“Gotcha,” the officer said as he squeezed off three quick shots, only one hitting his target.

Batman clutched his side, and thankfully felt little to no blood. The bullet had only grazed him.

“My turn,” Batman said to himself. Before the officer could counter, Batman shot his grappling gun at him, hitting him square in his glider pack. Batman attached the rope to his belt and grew tense as his target came into view… a flag pole! Horizontally extended from the building, the industrial issued metal almost didn’t take their weight as Batman dropped along one side and the officer the other, the rope hitting the flagpole and halting their fall.

The air was stolen from Batman’s lungs as he was yanked upwards, his neck snapping backwards uncomfortably. The officer was less lucky, the rope having wrapped around his arm and dislocating it upon impact.

Grunting, Batman swung himself into the window of the building and rolled to a stop within the dark room. Moving swiftly he melted into the shadows and made his way into the empty hallway. Nothing... Head on a swivel, Batman began to run to the emergency stairs, kicking open the door and wasting no time. His move was quickly replied to as bullets sprayed upwards from the stairwell below. The heat of a bullet seared Batman’s face as he allowed himself to fall backwards, landing in a somersault and quickly reversing direction.

Numerous spotlights shined through the windows, temporarily blinding Batman as he stood frozen like a deer in front of a car. Snapping out of it, he began to move to the elevator. The light above the door told him that a team of officers were already on their way up. He swore silently and then made a drastic decision.

Using a mini mine, Batman blew open the doors and without thinking, jumped to the other side. He just managed to flatten himself against the wall as the elevator came up, its side even with him.

The sounds of smoke grenades could be heard from inside the elevator shaft as the officers departed. Now was his chance. Bringing his arms to his sides and legs together, Batman began to slide down the wall and further into the shaft. Quickly and professionally, Batman flung open his arms, the nanobots in his cape configuring to create a rigid set of wings for him to glide down on.

With a near silent grunt, Batman landed at the bottom of the shaft, one more door in front of him. This should be fun, he thought.

Special Agent Damon cursed as he pocketed his communicator. “They’ve lost him.”

“Damon, what should we do?” Officer Carlson asked.

“Make a perimeter. No one is to leave this building until we know what happened to him,” He ordered. Suddenly the elevator doors exploded open, flinging their remains into the adjacent walls.

“What the hell?” Damon cried as kicked a table onto its side and took cover.

“It’s, it’s the Batman!” he heard someone cry. His eyes connected with Batman’s, their gazes deadlocked in a standstill moment that seemed to last forever. Batman was the first to break his gaze and Damon watched as something sailed from Batman’s hand and hit the lights, blanketing them in darkness.

“Hold your fire!” Damon called. A scream caught his ears followed by a gun shot, the bullet biting into the table he was hiding behind.

“No one fire!” Officer Carlson cried, “I repeat no one?” He was cut off as something over took him, a gloved hand silencing his mouth as he fell into unconsciousness.

“Where the hell are you?” Damon said to himself.

“Over here,” Batman said, his hand shooting out and grabbing Damon’s gun before he could react. Batman arched his knee and it connected with Damon’s gut, shooting strands of pain up his chest.

“Better luck next time,” Batman said, dropping Damon to the ground.

“We’re not done here,” Damon said hoarsely, flicking on his flashlight and shining it at Batman. “FIRE!”

Bullets careened past him and tore up the wall he was running along. Batman bit his lip as a bullet struck him in the leg. He was getting too lucky he thought as he continued on, but at least the suit was in working order. With a flick of his wrist, a mini mine flew from his hands and at the doors blowing them off with the smoke masking his position. The Enforcer careened down the street, not stopping. In a feat of skill, Batman launched himself into the cockpit of the moving vehicle. Seconds later and he was gone.

Under the remnants of Arkham Asylum

Messor awoke quickly and on reflex, shot his hand up. To his surprise, Ivan Steel had caught it, his grip slowly crushing his wrist.

“Nice to see you’ve awaken,” he said with a devilish grin, releasing Messor’s wrist.

“How, why am I still alive?” Messor asked.

“I want to rule Gotham, but to do that, I need your help,” Ivan Steel stated coolly.

“And in return for my services?”

“A section of Gotham, and Batman’s head,” Steel replied with a sick sadistic smile.

“What do you need me to do,? Messor asked, his eyes filled with rage. This time Batman would die at his hands, and he would watch as every last breath was squeezed from his battered body.

Gotham Countryside

The Enforcer tore down the country road and shot by a nearby house, its roar daring to knock down the poorly built structure. The rain slapped the metal exterior of the Enforcer as it squealed to a stop. The wheels crushed the grass beneath them. Batman’s eyes narrowed as he squinted through the rain and towards his destination? Wayne Manor. It seemed like it had been a life time since he had been here, since he had helped Boxer attempt to clean up Gotham. But that was before the Messor incident... before he was whole. His cape wrapped around his body and hugged it like a second skin while he walked to the cave entrance.

Each droplet registered on his visual screen, tinted by the green of his night-vision lenses. Ironic how something so small can change someone’s perception, he thought as he walked into the cave. Now and days everything was ironic to him, everything.

Vengeance and Mercy rested in his hands for insurance, their blades as sharp as ever. Hopefully he wouldn’t need to use them but there was no wrong in being prepared.

He called out and hoped he would hear a noise, some reassurance of human presence, but never heard a sound. Batman was alone and that moment seemed to define how his life would be… lonesome, without the love of others or unwilling to accept it. Pushing those thoughts away Batman ran his hands along the computer dashboard, their keys worn and past their prime.

Bats fluttered across the caverns roof, their cries faint but not ignored. Continuing on, Batman finally came to what he was looking for. Beside his old bed inside the holding cell he had been kept in, was a gold chain, tied to the cell bars. Attached to the chain was a pendant, with the name Mark on it. His wife had given it to him and he would not lose it again.

Now that he had everything, he could leave, but for some reason he didn’t. The memories flooded back into his mind and he was compelled to sit there and think, about times since past and the future that was upon them; A dark future that he was driven to change.

The Outskirts

The thunder crackled through the sky, giving warning of a terrible storm. Armies of water trampled on an aging structure, water pooling on the sides of the building. High winds kicked up sand, small projectiles laying siege on the deserted building. The battered sign read “Cybertron Labs”, the letters faded, victims of time. Inside the building was rotting desks and worn out equipment that was now the home to a family of rodents.

A sudden bolt of lightning came crashing down on the building’s old satellite. The overpowering blast traveled down the satellites wiring, striking the machinery attached to it, in the basement of the building. Suddenly, the humanoid’s eyes flickered to life. Its ancient metal body creaked as the being rose the noise echoing off the basement walls. It scanned the room and scavenged for excess machinery, replacing worn out and inefficient parts that could be found on its body.

The being’s mechanical arms extended, shooting forward and into a nearby door. The thick titanium wall stood no chance as the being folded it with ease. The being walked out of the building. Within moments it was bathed in light. Ivan Steel jumped out of a humvee and with a smile said "tag it". In that instant hundreds of cables shot out of his soldiers' guns, striking the metallic being and forcing it to it's knees.

The Batcave

No longer lost in his thoughts, Batman hopped back into the Enforcer and sped out of the cave, looking forward to a night of rest and preparation for the trying times to come.

As the Enforcer sped out of the cave, the remaining bat-computers hummed to life. A skull flashed across the screen, initiating various programs. Nanobites began to pore out of the computers various ports, the small mechanical beings absorbing machinery and using it for the blue prints displayed on the screen. As the nanobites worked furiously, profiles of the Joker, and other villains of Gotham past could be seen on a smaller screen, their data being replicated.

Thunder crackled loudly, signaling the beginning of the end. It’s ferocious howl chasing the Dark Knight and threatening his mission and the people it was devoted to.

no more updates so far... pretty much the same ol' kind of thing. I'll be working on the story here and there as the week goes on. Hopefully I'll finish it this year lol, although at this rate...

I could use some serious feedback people. Usually I don't like to leave things incomplete, but if there's no one reading this then what's the point right?
