I can't wait to see this movie. I'm a lifelong Bond fanatic, and for years I've wanted a smaller-scale, more hard-edged Bond film, and it looks like we're finally getting one. I'm still not 100% satisfied with Craig's casting as Bond-- I still think Clive Owen would have been perfect-- and it's perplexing that they couldn't dye his hair black. Still, I'm withholding judgment on him until I actually see the movie this weekend.
There's been a lot of grumbling about how this movie "reboots" the series. So what? The Bond movies have never been heavy on continuity. Aside from a few small references here and there, there's nothing to suggest that all the actors who have portrayed Bond are even playing the same man. Really, you could look at it as a reboot each time a new actor took over in the lead role. I suppose it helps that I consider Ian Fleming's books the "real" Bond canon, so I don't hold the movies to some stringent continuity code or anything like that.
Anyway, what do you all think of the title song, "You Know My Name," performed by Audioslave's Chris Cornell? I think it's pretty cool, though it's not gonna make me forget Tom Jones belting out "Thunderball," Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die," or Shirley Bassey's blistering performance of "Goldfinger." Notably, this is the first time since 1987's "The Living Daylights" that the title song has been performed by a man.
Anyway, I can't wait to see it. Although I still have some reservations, I think it's looking to be a pretty fun movie.

I'm not a big Bond fan, but I've liked the last few movies. My dad is a big fan, and he's upset with it, he doesn't like when they change things up, like "M" is not a woman in the book, and the casting of Craig. But, Once it comes to DVD, I might give it a try...

My wife & I are both fans of the series, so we'll most likely see it this weekend. I agree, continuity has never been a hallmark of the Bond franchise so I don't really care if it's a reboot. The closest things to long-term threads I can think of would be a couple of references to Bond's marriage (For Your Eyes Only & License to Kill), the various old gadgets/cars used in backgrounds (most notably in Die Another Day), and Pierce Brosnan's comment about the choice of liquor kept by M's "predecessor" (Goldeneye). But those are stretching it, since you wouldn't have to have seen the earlier movies to know what was going on. |

Anyway, what do you all think of the title song, "You Know My Name," performed by Audioslave's Chris Cornell? I get bothered by stuff like that, too. His hair not being black is the first thing I noticed when I saw the trailer. But I s'pose it's been brown in the past as well.
I love Chris Cornell, with Soundgarden being one of my favorite groups, but the new Audioslave material just isn't doing much for me. It's like they're running out of things to do with their style. Still, the new song fits okay with Bond. I'll have to hear it again to know it better.
Speaking of Bond continuity, I may've brought this up before, but does The Rock (with Sean Connery & Nicolas Cage) suggest that Connery's character is an aged James Bond? He's a British secret agent that was imprisoned in America for stealing government secrets and all, so a lot of people seem to think that. I'm not a huge Bond fan like some of you guys, but I thought it was a pretty cool concept.

I must admit to being excited about this - I like Bond and always have, but don't live for it. Personally speaking, this is probably the most eagerly anticipated 007 that I can remember.
I think Daniel Craig will excellent. I really do. I was little surprised when I heard, and it took some thinking about. I've only seen him in 2 things that I can immediately think of; he was great in Layer Cake - and he totally stole the show in Our Friends In The North (a serious contender for greatest ever BBC drama) Considering the names that were in that, that was some achievement.
From the point of Craig's name being announced, there has been a lot of surprise in the media - and in some cases, outright sniping. That seems to have dried up completely now (at least it has here) and everyone is making very positive noises about the new 007.
The Bond Begins (nice) type film we're being promised is massively appealing. I'm lookng forward to it................ |

Though not literally an older 007, I always assumed his character was supposed to be an homage to Connery's days as Bond. |

Yeah, it's been pointed out that Roger Moore had brown hair, but that's one of the problems I had with his Bond. Despite his acting talent, I never could buy Moore as Bond. He was in some good movies-- "For Your Eyes Only" is is best, as far as I'm concerned-- but he just never had that edge Bond needs. Moore always looked like a pleasant English gentleman, not a lethal secret agent who can kil you 6 different ways before you hit the ground.

I love Audioslave, but the stuff I've heard from their new album just isn't that great. It's perfectly fine, just not outstanding. I still haven't even felt like buying the new album. Whereas last year, I heard "Be Yourself," and knew that I had to have the album immediately.

It was the Royal Premier here last night - apparently the old girl's a Bond fan (which is news to me) - and on the radio this morning, it's all everyone's been talking about.
Initial reports are unanimous - both movie generally, and 007 personally are a massive hit. It's been a big thumbs up!

My thoughts exactly. Moore was great with the jokes and the over-the-top gadgets, and played the upper-crust socialite very well, but he didn't have the edge I wanted to see in Bond. Does anyone remember his role in Cannonball Run? I think his opening scene in that movie was more "hardcore spy" than anything he did in the actual Bond franchise. |

A friend from work saw it last night (Luton Cineworld, incase anyone is remotely interested).
We talked about it yesterday and I knew he was a big 007 fan and that he was going to see it. I'd like to have chatted today for a bit longer, but he was simply on his way past my desk and going into a meeting.
His verdict was..................excellent.
He felt Daniel Craig was awesome; verbatim - "a 10 out of 10, totally plausible, serious hard case spy". & that was all he really said! Sounds like it should be good!
I'm actually looking after my brother's kids tonight while he goes and sees it! Great!
I'm going on Tuesday. |

I saw it today and it was amazing! It was a long movie but not once did I glance at my watch, I was so sucked into the story.
I recommend it to everyone and anyone who is a bond fan or who is slightly interested, you will love it

Yeah, the praise for this movie seems to be universal. Been a long, long, LONG time since a Bond movie won this kind of acclaim. They're always a smash with audiences, but usually savaged by critics. I've been unable to find ANY negative comments for this movie. I heard it's almost 2 1/2 hours, but they're all pretty long. I'm going Sunday, and it cannot get here soon enough. Then, on Wednesday, I'm seeing the D in Pick of Destiny! Good week for movies, for sure!

Just got back from seeing it - all of the praise is well deserved. It was a bit on the long side, but nothing felt too drawn out or forced...there was just a lot of story there. A lot more than I expected, quite honestly. And Craig knocks it out of the park. He doesn't have the suave demeanor of Brosnan, but he has the mood, the swagger, and a very cool edge to him. You can easily see him growing into the suave part as he grows older, but as his first assignment he is still learning a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing where they go from here, and we will be picking it up once it comes out. |

I can't really say that it wasn't the best Bond movie ever, to be honest! I need to see it again to be sure, but I REALLY thought it was brilliant and Craig was better than Brosnan in a lot of ways.

I would have my revenge... |
