Latino Review, which were the first to break the news that Brandon Routh was the new Superman, says that Heath Ledger is now the Joker.
"We were first to tell the world that Brandon Routh was going to be the new Superman. Now here we are at it again as we just got word from A VERY TRUSTED SOURCE that the offer last night was officially made to Heath Ledger to star as The Joker in the Batman Begins Sequel!"

This doesn't seem like that bad a choice. I suppose that we may have something in stone by the end of the weekend, since a few people think that the official announcement will occur at the SDCC. This doesn't seem like that bad a choice. I haven't really seen that many movies with Heath Ledger, but he has done well in the ones that I have. He can have the strong on screen prescence that Nicholson had. He is no Nicholson, but I think he could do well.

It could be a very good choice, I mean how many of us had never heard of Routh before he was cast as Supes. Does anyone have a picture of this "NEW JOKER"?

I am a little skeptical about the choice is it's official, but I like the idea that they are not going after a "big" star. I haven't seen much of his work, so I can't completely make any conclusions yet. It will have to be a wait and see as the weeks progress. |

I was talking to a co-worker about the emergence of this rumor. He pointed out that the Joker is really the opposite of every character Ledger has played(at least in the films we had seen him in). In a Knight's Tale, The Patriot, Brothers Grimm he plays a very quiet almost subdied character. This would be quite a change for him to be playing someone as outgoing as the Joker can be. I am not doubting his ability, just htought I wold point this out.

^^ good point. like a few of you have said until its written in stone, I'm only taking it with a grain of salt. interesting choice tho, if it is true

Here's some quick photos...
I hate to say, Ledger just doesn't seem fitting in any way I look at it. He's not that unknown; he's been in plenty of big movies the past few years and I hear his name quite a bit. I always thought he seemed like the "heart throb" type, and facially, he doesn't fit the bill of what most of us would consider a Joker look (long nose and chin, etc.). Not to say Nicholson had that type of face. I haven't seen much of Ledger's work, but in that aspect, I would imagine he's rather talented.
Either way, I trust that Christopher Nolans what he's doing.

I think they should go with Adrian Brodey Andrew Koenig Lachey Hulme or Jim Carey as the Joker
because they have the physical features long chin lankey stickman body and scary evil smiles.

I would be okay with this if it is true, as the guy is a great actor, and I think he can oull off the maniacal intensity. |

I just got back from Comic Con and I?m sitting in a Mexican food joint updating my coverage of the event. So, I check my email and find that I have 1,000 plus emails about Heath Ledger as The Joker.
Really.
Everyone wants to know what I think about it -- why, I really don?t know. But I?ll tell y?all anyway.
I?m down with it.
Why, because I trust Nolan and have no reason to doubt him.
So there y?all have it, my initial reaction. Sure I had my favorite (Lachy Hulme) like everyone else did. And yeah, there?s some ?WTF? initially for me. However, methinks that getting the ?WTF? thing out of everyone is genius.
Leaking it (and it WAS leaked) right as Comic Con was commencing was f'n brilliant.
And I'll say this, even though I had a "favorite" (WTF do I know about casting?), I've long said that this Joker has to be totally different than anything we've seen in the past, live-action that is.
So, let?s get on board with this and reserve final judgment two years from now?
I usually don't go out on a limb unless I have had something confirmed, and it has been. Heath Ledger will be The Joker. From my BEST source:
"Nolan has been in secret talks with Ledger for some time....The fan favorites like Paul Bettany, Crispin Glover and your fave pick, Lachy Hulme, were just grist for the mill. Ledger will be playing The Joker. The offer was made last night, and it will be a done deal.

I too trust nolan 100%. I can't wait to see a teaser trailer for this bad boy of a movie, let alone see how heath ledger handles the joker. 2008 is going to be a good year

Well, it begins. From this point on, expect the news and rumors to really pick up. Here?s our first report from one of our sources who has been tremendous for BOF in the past. Here?s what he had to tell us:
As rumored and expected, The Joker is going to be nothing like Nicholson?s version from B89. ?What would be the point in trying to recreate something that was done so well then??
Expect to see a back story for The Joker and we shouldn?t expect to see him until the middle of the film. ?Like Batman in BEGINS.?
The Joker will not be the only villain in the film. ?I know you?ve heard this before but trust me -- Nolan and his brother have a couple of surprises up their sleeves!?
?Heath Ledger is perfect for the role as he has never played this kind of part before which is what Nolan was after. Think about it -- if you see Sam Rockwell or Robin Williams or even Hugo Weaving, you?d know exactly how they would play the role before even seeing the film and that?s not very intriguing for fans is it? I have a feeling Paul Bettany was out of the mix after his performance in The Da Vinci Code.?
?From what I?ve heard about the direction of the film expect The Joker to be very creepy and very extreme.?
?Whatever you?ve heard about titles for the film -- pay no attention as the title will most likely not be known until they?ve finished shooting.?
He also told us that THE PRESTIGE is going to blow everyone away. ?Think the vision of BATMAN BEGINS mixed with the suspense of MEMENTO,? our source said...
creepy and extreme.... also no Batman strikes , sounds good to me. The reasoning behind choosing ledger makes sense IMO, but it's hard to say anything till we see him on screen.....

We watched 10 Things I hate about you the other day. (yes a teen movie, but she wanted to watch... swear!)
Anyway, Heath has one of his earliest performces in it. And I asked my wife what she thought. There is one scene where he grins. We paused it.. and yes. He looks like her can play the part.
I thionk he will do good.

I think he can do it. Watch A Knights Tale then watch The Brothers Grimm - he has a much wider range than one might expect (my sister-in-law used to watch 10 Things... all the time; it's really not all that bad considering the genre).
I really like that point: yes, we do know exactly what any of those actors (or half a dozen others) would be like as the Joker. Playing it as something new sounds pretty cool. |

oh god, thats HORRIBLE i?m really upset about that, i dont see him being the joker in ANY way shape or form, my IDEAL joker would be edward norton,the guys an AMAZING actor, some his movies include, red dragon, american history X, fight club(one of my favorite movies of all time) and death to smoochie, hes incredibly versatile and he shifts from one role to another in such a way its amazing, thats why hes my vote for the joker

Man does all this griping and whining about Heath Ledger as The Joker sound familiar. Yep, it was the end of the 80?s and Michael Keaton was picked to be Batman. Remember the Mr. Mom as Batman gripes that everybody complained about? Turned out the Keaton nailed the role and it took 16 years for anybody else to even challenge him as Batman.
I think Heath can do it and I think he?ll be great.
