I've been meaning to start a thread like this for a while now, so here goes:
Don't think I hate Batman Begins. I absolutely love it. These are just my sugestions of a few things that could have been added if time constraints were not a factor.
1.) Gordon's depression/mistrust of Batman: I liked in Year On when Gordon was really depressed, almost to the point of killing himself beacuse of all the corruption, then Batman just turns his life around. I thought it was an interesting and uplifting aspect. Also, in BB, Gordon ends up trusting Batman too fast. Again, in Year One, Gordon is intent on bringing Batman down, and it takes him quite a while to get on a level of trust with him.
2.) More Pre-Suit: We didn't get that struggling for inspiration storyline like there was in MOTP. I thought it would add a lot to the film if Bruce went out fighting in a concept suit, and the criminals weren't afraid. It would give the Batman symbol more meaning. (They also didn't explain how the rubber black logo gets onto the suit)
3.) Make Batman more mysterious: I didn't care for the idea that after his first appearance, Batman was common knowledge to the public. There was the article about him in the paper that Loeb holds up. I thought that the police should be struggling with the press to keep Batman stories under wraps:kinda like The Batman. The criminals would fear him more if he wasn't all over the tabloids. "Men fear most what they cannot see."
If anyone would like to add or comment, please do.

about the black rubber bat on his chest, somethings in movies you gotta fill in yourself. sometimes you just gotta fill in the gaps with your own mind. look at spiderman, great movie right? but where exactly did he get the materials for his costume? see what i mean?

u get all the gaps filled from reading the novels. i read spiderman 2 and it says that he got his suit from the Flying Deutchman's (the guy in first movie who was like "aw my leg! my leg!" ) costume maker; kinda funny...but anyways...
i wanted batman to be unknown as well. probably by the end of the day, batman was all over gotham. and they had the signal up after like 2 weeks. so batman was public knowlege by then.

Uhh.....we care?
The only thing that I was disatisfied with was that Gotham was too modern-looking. They should've harkened to Timm's "Dark Deco" style.
Marge: Homer, I've got someone here who can help!
Homer: Batman?
Marge: No, a scientist!
Homer: Batman's a scientist.
Marge: It's not BATMAN!! |

well thats the thing with batman begins. its a "realistic" batman. nolan is all about the realism of batman. had it been directed by another guy, it probably could have been dark deco. i like dark deco too.

Eh guys, who believes what they read in the tabloids anyway? If anything, the only thing that annoyed me about Batman Begins was that we didn't get to see Ra's teaching him any detective work. But that's not to say that he didn't...
In the shadows I saw my destiny...
I would seek justice...
I would have my revenge...

on the detective work, maybe his skills will be revealed in the sequel and bruce will mention how he gained the knowledge (maybe after alfred asks how he knows wat to do or something)
"I went around the world, searched in all the shadows. And there is something out there in the darkness, something terrifying, something that will not stop until it gets revenge... Me"

I agree?
Build the legend and mystic to further intensify the panic throughout Gotham?s crime driven underground.

Ahhh? very observant on your own part, Gothamite?
There are definitely components of his overall training that are missing from the first section of the movie? DETECTIVE being one of the most definable aspects of the Batman.
I think this first movie wanted to exploit the brawn over brain.

The fact that Batman was invented in a deco era and that Gotham is to evoke a darker, more gothic type of city makes one appreciate the importance, quality and brilliance of Anton Furst's production design from the Burton films.
Similarly, that essence was carried on throughout The Animated Series.
It just seems as though Batman could get away with being larger than life in a past era BECAUSE the past is lacking sophisticated technology THERFORE making his unique gadgetry all the more intriguing.
Sort of like comparing the Connery Bond films with the latest Brosnan films? the modernisms of these latest films lost the glamour and myth of the earlier films because it?s plausible for some of those devices to actually exist.
The notion of Batman in a modern setting is sort of implausible.

lol yeah. The scenes in some parts were a bit too short. I have seen that many fans are extremly anal about realism with batman. really, as long as its nothing too stupid, i accept it. Id still like to see the next film go darker |
